TTSX AND LRX

Has anyone any real world experience shooting deer with Barnes 120 TTSX or LRX in the 6.5 creedmoor. I’ve tried a few copper offerings out there and haven’t been over impressed so thought id try these.

I tried the 120gr TTSX's and they shot and killed well. Just not as well as the 100gr TTSX's

The speed achieved with the 100gr bullet seemed to suit that bullet perfectly

What powder were you using and what speed did you manage

100gn bullets are better in a 6.5cm I’ve shot lots of deer with ttsx 100 gn.. Yew Tree tlr are better and more available more accurate and kill at longer range….. each to his own

RS60 speed was 3300ft/s. Pole axed anything I shot. Including a Stag at 340 yards

Some love them, some don’t.
I tried them and they were supremely accurate but just not for me.

I prefer bullets that stay together for deer

In my opinion if you don’t like tlr then 100gn Barnes is the next best

It's something I will try in the 6.5 PRC, which I think will be perfect for.

Personally when I go back to the CM again. I'll just grab some more 100gr TTSXs.

A friend uses these and nothing else in his Creedmoor for stretchy shots in Cornwall on roe , never had issues.
Won’t shoot red deer with them past 100/150

Shooting 120s in my Swede with N160, they have been good in terms of accuracy and ability to drop deer.

When you say you have tried other copper offerings and have not been impressed, what has been unsatisfactory in your mind?

No issues in my experience with Barnes 120 ttsx’s or 127 lrx’s in both 6.5CM or 6.5x55 for fallow, red, roe and muntjac using RS62 at around 2750-2800fps. All species apart from muntjac enter the food chain with minimal carcass damage.

Just lack of expansion and stuff running even though shot placement was spot on. Looking for something that will drop stuff with out making mincemeat. I know a lot of people drill them through the shoulders but you end up with 2 shoulders that wasted. Heart and lung shot is my preferred so looking for expansion and I don’t neck or head

I’ve had some very satisfactory experiences on reds with TLR 114, 4 petals in the carcass and a clean result. I have also experience of shots resulting in audible ricocheting requiring a follow up. I put this down to my shot placement, usually heart and lung and not finding a solid.
I used Sako blade las week (factory load) on a calf at 165 yards, good entry and exit in heart but damage at 90 degrees all the way down to the tail end.

If you’re looking to use an armpit shot the ttsx is not the best option imho. In my experience it likes a bit of mass to expand at its best. The shoulder shot you mention is preferred and again purely my own experience, is not writing off both shoulders with this bullet. If you insist on an armpit meat saver shot then I suggest a fragmenting monolithic rather than a retention type design like barnes. The barnes will work but is not optimal for this placement.

I agree with most as run 100gr TTSX in my 6.5. It’s sitting around 2950fps with TS62

I use the 130 TTSX in the 308.

High shoulder shoot 90% of the deer I take, not had one take another step, as expected with that shot placement due to taking out a portion of the spinal cord, as well as the top of both scapular and the lungs... meat damage is minimal with the ttsx as it stays together so well.

I don't like long tracks, our cover is too dense.

Just about to order another 200 TTSX, I rate them highly
