Firearms Officer vist

Got a phone call today off the Firearms officer that's been appointed to me.
He asked if i have a cabinet, told him yes but it's not secured because i didn't want to assume it was a given i'd get granted. (due to a 30 year old conviction)
He said to get it secured because he hadn't come across any problems at his end.
He's coming out on Tuesday morning
anyone got any pointers they can offer and anything that i really should know the answers to regarding shotgun safety.
I've done a lot of research regarding safe distance etc but don't want to be caught out on a curveball question (if there are any)
or should i just calm the F**K down 🤣

The questions will most likely be about safe practice and operation of guns, they might ask something like "What would you do if approached by a dog walker when out shooting with your shotgun?" to which your answer would be something along the lines of "Break open the shotgun and unload the cartridges".

It's not such a big deal, just be familiar with basic gun control and safe practice with firearms

There is no hidden agenda

Look at it from his point of view

The assessment of you has been done

He is looking at the security of your potential firearms

He wants to see a cabinet of suitable construction fixed to solid wall

He wants to see that it is out of the public eye

That the keys are not available to anyone other than those on the SGC

That the house is reasonable secure and not full of crims

Sure you’ll be fine!
Get the cabinet fixed in the house following home office guidance “firearm security” online, and fix it good and proper- my FEO tries to hang off the open door 🤔
Take a breath and treat him like an ordinary bloke on the day, be honest about any questions he asks.
Job done!

it's getting secured to an internal brick wall but the wall to the side is plasterboard, will that be an issue?

thanks for that mate, been waiting a while then got nervous after the phone call

As long as it’s “secured firmly to the fabric of the building” is pretty much what the guidance says, so into brick you’ll need Rawl bolts or chemical fixing with threaded rod etc. it also needs to be out of sight etc

I am sure you already know but in case

1 Over engineer fixing of the cabinet so there are no issues

2 If you have partner/wife, kids be clear they don’t know where you keep the keys, same if it’s keypad they don’t know codes

3 If you have house alarm talk him through it

Where are you putting it?
Generally, from your flo point of view, it should be out of sight, but easy access.
In contrast, the FLO might not be happy with it being g installed in the loft.
If its a hassle to get to it, it increases the temptation to think.... o I'll put it away tomorrow...
