Tikka Build or Top Tier Factory Rifle?

Honestly everyone goes different ways and these days there are a lot of choices that produce sub moa rifles. That said modern stock design whether in a custom or factory rifle does help ie flat squared forend and vertical handgrip and check riser. I’d never go back to a traditional stock. I think people get two hung up on laser accuracy and in actual fact practice is probably the best thing to improve your shooting. So long as the rifle can put 10shots in an inch at 100m it’ll be fine go practice and forget about it.

Without a doubt my inclination, as can be attested by the contents of my cabinet, are with the path you chose. I have 2x customised sakos (both bought used) and a custom remmy. It’s an easy way to buy, try, then improve over time, spreading cost and putting the cash where it needs to go to make a shooter, a high quality barrel and a stiff bedded stock.

Al that being said sauer make some lovely things these days, I find the costs of the carbon stocks ridiculous, but the more standard models are very tempting. I suspect a custom will be more accurate, but it’s probably splitting hairs for stalking purposes. I do have a sauer 90 and the blueing, woodwork, and feel is legions above a tikka, I suppose it is about priorities.

Relatively new to stalking, a couple of seasons now... Have gone down the road of a Tikka Build, have I made the right choice? The end product is a Tikka T3x stainless in 6.5 Creedmoor, a second hand Carbon Fibre PSE Hunter stock in mint condition, a new Zeiss V6 3-18x50, Tier One scope mounts, a Spuhr picatinny rail, a Hausken JD224 moderator, a Vortex Scope Bubble level, a cheap Wildhunter 6-9" swivel bipod & a Home made cheek riser. All coming to around €4,850.00. I'm happy with the result, so not complaining. Out of interest, I'm just wondering, leaving the accessories out of it and just taking the rifle and stock into account, costing €1950, was this the better way to go in your opinion or would I have been better off going with a Top Tier Factory Rifle? Like for example Sako or Blazer options....
Ok tbf that's too much kit for deerstalking . Nothing much wrong with a Tikka , they seem to shoot very well but personally speaking the scope is bigger than needed , bubbles are not required in deerstalking , If you like it like that fine what ever floats your boat !
Tikka off the peg spec 6x40 scope std mounts and a reasonable moderator might well perform better and faster and not make your shoulder ache at the end of a hard day . Don't get Kit obsessive, instead go out stalking more is my thoughts .
In Competitive shooting all that and some more so long as your staying in the right section but if we are talking, it dont take much . Nearly 5k spent on how many deer ? Just think about it the extra dosh could be spent on more stalking 5k would actually get you a good bit of stalking ground

Getting out stalking isn't a problem, I'm out most weeks during the season, have about 22/23 shot season gone, no record breaker but happy enough. The rifle and scope is set up as a max point blank range system. Within 220 yds simply aim and shoot, if I've time, at the further end of the range, I can adjust the scope slightly to increase accuracy which is always enjoyable. The scope and stock are both ultra light, so carrying it, is not a problem. Deer stalking is a hobby I enjoy, so even though you're right about the expense, you only live once, so why not. I also enjoy a bit of mid-long range target practice so refining accuracy is always a good thing. As I said I'm very happy with my set up and won't be changing or upgrading it. I just saw some clips of those top end rifles and with time on my hands during the off season, I thought I'd simply ask ye guys your thoughts on this subject. Thanks for yours and everyone else's reply...

Was out yesterday for some practice with my main stalking rifle

My friend brought along three rifles to test

One, a standard but brand new 7mm 08 T3x, the other a 260 T3 I built for someone else 10 years prior that had new ownership and unknown round count, the other a 22 Rimfire CZ 457 built for PRS comps

The 7mm 08 produced a 2” group at 110 mtrs with factory ammo and was frankly horrible to shoot in the standard plastic stock

The 260 produced half moa with ammo kindly borrowed from another 260 with the same chamber (we were testing the rifle to see if it was worth leaving as is)

The rimfire half moa

Moral - the T3 when breathed on will likely produce a rifle that will shoot as well as most custom actions costing 2 x or more and even the most humble rimfire action will produce match accuracy when re worked

But that’s what he chose and what works for him 👍🏻
