A gentleman at the club I'm in the process of joining let me have a couple of shots with his Marlin 1895 today. My first go with a 45-70.

Yep - been there done that - shooting on a whole new level. For those who have led a sheltered (much quieter and much less smokier) life and for comparison - reading left to right 45-90; 45-70; .308 and .22.


Oh! I nearly forgot …. The 50 cal.

Great fun, the art of the single shot! Especially for fallow deep and up close in the August woods.
My Ruger no.3, which will put 3 or 4 through the same hole.

Big bores are better, just a fact, and 45-70 is the gateway drug.
Get it done and chase that dragon.

This is a terrible phot of mine, 223 for comparison.

I would get one in a flash if I had the Job for it in the UK , thing is i haven't got UK boar ground and that is about the only practical thing i can come up with what it does it does- away from putting holes in targets Big holes with plenty recoil and a big bang burning a lot of powder each trigger press

Fine for deer with the right bullets if you fancy one.

I have seen with my own eyes -too much imho/too big!

It isn't a 45-70, but that is a 325gr FTX just like in a 45-70 Leverlution round.

No idea - relics left to me from an old pal - I thought they may have been crimped in some way or maybe the bullets are not true calibre?
Open to suggestions….

Rare in the UK

It has a No1 modified stock set on it and the lever has been altered. In the states they call them no.2's. Great fun! The last muntjac I shot with had far less damage than the .308 had caused. You could eat right up to the hole!!!!
