Just how good is the .260

Thanks Brora, I to have a 6.5x55 but i needed a lighter rifle due to shoulder pain. The 260 being a short action hence lighter fitted the bill, and i think the 6.5 round takes some beating,

Are you sure that a lighter rifle loaded with a higher pressure cartridge will be kinder to your shoulder?? That hasn't been my experience unless I really wanted a new rifle; then I could convince myself!:-D~Muir

my mate has a semi custom 260 rem and i have beaten him plenty of times at 600 and 1000yds with my 30-06

Thanks for that Muir , I must admit i didn't think of that, but the latter may prevail in the end.

I use 120 gr Sierra PH and 129 Hornady SP & SST in my .260. Have yet to try the Partition which could be an excellent deer load. It's an easy cartridge to load for with a range of bullet weights that cover all quarry in the UK perhaps excluding boar.

yeah thats fine muir but the saying is i am f--king good but i lack in confidence :D depending what company your in of coarse

i havent had results from yesterday yet but i am sure my 30-06 seen off the 260,6.5s and the 308s at 1000yds,i wernt so good at 600 but in the top 5 i rekon :D

my mate with 260 beat me at 1000yds ,he came 1st,i came 3rd,my mate thought i beat him,he gave impression i did coz he seen my targets,i came 3rd at 600yds,my mate came 8thmy tikka off the shelf, his remy is customised,he should have the advantage really.still a good result :D

after studying the resultsat 1000yds i ad 2 shots that didnt hit the whole target inc backing board,2 0f my cases must of split and fell short, there is 4 fig 11 army targets on the backer, fig 11 is 16 inches wide and 47 inches deep,15 out of 20 shots were on the target,3 were just off the edge, did shoot well,i had 1 bull which is 4 inches,2b's,1c and 3d's which is inside a 1 foot scoring circle, other 8 were on the target around the outer scoring ring, was good result.

you cant never tell when they are going to split,i had 25 split all told, was fourth or fifth firing, that remy brass has a short life, only running them scenars on 49.8gr of n140,they are doing 2785 fps

all joking aside 260 rem is awesome,i had a go on mates with some 142gr vld's and had 3 shot 5 inch group at 1000yds,its a left hander aswell,

I picked up a 6.5 Creedmore last month (DPMS heavy barreled AR-10) I can't wait to see that one in action tho I'm told it's "sweet spot" is in the 700-800 yard range. The rifle is going to my business partner so I'll have to wait to hear the results. ~Muir
