.243 cal and lead ban wording

The 243 needed the right bullet with lead, having witnessed a 80 lead grallocking an animal.

Plenty on here seem happy with non-lead in 243, and the Scottish reduction to 80g may help.

Lets see the legislation that gets enacted, them some manufacturers might discover the needs for a new calibre, call it the 6.18 Creedmore and it might be a winner?

Other examples give people a chance who then can relate to something they don't understand to something they do.
As you noted the other points in my post then you can see why people want to find a reason not to ban lead as many are trying to find a way to stop the hotel sign saying full. In both cases there no chance to reverse what is happening in the UK.

It is just that people keep trying to find a reason that a lead ban doesn't apply when it is clearly stated that it does.

I discussed this with a learned ballistics man, can't remember which ammo company he worked for, at the Stalking show. The 8 twist works absolutely superbly with 100g, but you can't get a 100g copper bullet into the breach of a .243. The breach is just not long enough, and you obviously can't increase the width of the bullet. He reckoned that you were limited to about 86 - 88g. (Depends on the shape of the bullet, but that will also affect the speed of the bullet). I'm currently throwing 85g copper through my Tikka 8 twist .243 and, thus far, they have done the business. Yes I still think, know, 100g lead is better, but times are a changing.

Mine shoots 80-85gr copper fine, 90gr won't stabilise.

Maybe my 'learned' ballistics man wasn't as 'learned' as he thought he was.
What were they? I don't home load and can't find any copper of that weight ready made.

A rifles bore is the hole drilled first before rifling is added.
243 would be below the proposed ban if they hadn't mentioned the bullet as well.

Hopefully it's fcuk up on their part akin to the .240 minimum bore limit for large deer that actually made 243 illegal but everyone turned a blind eye too.
It is also why shotgun gauges should never be called bore except 410 and some other small bores.
For example; a 12 gauge is NOT bored to 12 anything!

Not gauged at 12 anything either, the expression bore is quite old, as in, it is bored to the same diameter as a lead ball theat weighs one twelth of a pound.

you can usually set the bullet deeper to over come jamming into the rifle ( depends on the gun in question and which bullet ) . You can also increase a chamber length . Long / heavy 243 ammo has been used in comps for a long time

But they consider .243 as a large calibre and say that very clearly. They consider it as larger than 6.17 and clearly mention the specific calibre will be banned in lead. It is just wishful thinking that you can argue it. I suspect if enough fuss is made they will reduce it to 6mm rather than allowing .243

You can try and "tell me what" however the blinkered approach to this is why we are in the position we are in now.
We are both engineers and I was taught there is never just "one way" to approach a job. If it was then we would all have Left-hand drive cars use Tikka rifles and work in Metric

You are right there is always alternatives. But that said, if a customer says to me you can't use galvanised steel in here because of whatever reason. Then I have to find a suitable alternative that doesn't have galvanised steel in it.
