Another brilliant success for the "voice of shooting"!just saying, they announce the lead ban and say the legislation will be summer of 2026 they announce mods will be removed from certificates date unknown, if we are lucky.![]()
On reading that article it appears that the lead contamination happens more often because of shooting over stored wheat, as in indoor pest control, not in the field. Edit (As pointed out in post 68).![]()
Lead shot contamination in milling wheat ‘disappointing’ - Farmers Weekly
Flour millers have been left disappointed after finding lead shot contamination in milling wheat in cereal grains at intake. Trade association UK Flourwww.fwi.co.uk
True, however there are many crops that will hold lead in the leaves and stems, brassicas for example,On reading that article it appears that the lead contamination happens more often because of shooting over stored wheat, as in indoor pest control, not in the field. There is plenty of research into plant uptake of lead however.
Actually, we're all living longer, at great expense to the pension system and the NHS, so frankly I'm surprised that the government is so concerned that we are all poisoning ourselves. You'd have thought they would be encouraging people to an early grave.
I'll say for one I am far more concerned about what's in the store bought procesed foods than I am of potential bits of lead traces in crops lolOn reading that article it appears that the lead contamination happens more often because of shooting over stored wheat, as in indoor pest control, not in the field. Any proof of that?True, however there are many crops that will hold lead in the leaves and stems, brassicas for example,
Na, that's what the virologists are for. Much quicker than lead.On reading that article it appears that the lead contamination happens more often because of shooting over stored wheat, as in indoor pest control, not in the field. Edit (As pointed out in post 68).

Just scattered some small gravel on mine in the kitchen garden to test, and yes, plenty sits well in the leaves and stems joints.Any proof of that?
Tesco did ban a shoot near me because of the risk of shot lodging in their contract grown cauliflowers, but that meant all kinds of shot, lead, steel or whatever.Just scattered some small gravel on mine in the kitchen garden to test, and yes, plenty sits well in the leaves and stems joints.
I think it’s documented elsewhere, I’ll have a look..
Just lead shot not steel or bismuth ?True, however there are many crops that will hold lead in the leaves and stems, brassicas for example,
Absolutely, imported salad veg gets dunked in chlorine to prevent the import of alien insects and diseases!Perhaps I'm wrong but are crops not processed and washed ect ? Well of the leaf kind
Is it nitro proofed? So was talking to my dad and we were discussing my grandad's old Spanish side by sides (not profed for steel shot)
My question is so onces leas has banned I'll assume that means these guns can no longer be used ??? Or is there an exemption for old shotguns and if so does that mean cert makers will still produce lead shot certs
Or is it a matter of the lead being banned will force gun owners on lead only shotguns to have no choice to have the deactivated or destroyed ???
IV not seen anything written about this in any of the ban information on what happens to older guns
2 1/2" nitro proof rqdHP steel cartridges should say so on the cartridge and be marked 1050 bar i have yet to see any in a case length less than 3”or 12ga
Steel shells generally pattern tighter due to the facts they don't crush and the wad is tougher thus the reason for full choke being for lead only not steel is to mitigate against choke swelling. All I know is in my hatsan semi auto the full shoke says lead shot only and then this makes this choke completely redundant when lead being banned
Pmax is only 740bar for 2 1/2inch nitro proof HP steel is 1050bar.
hope those wads are biodegradableSteel shells generally pattern tighter due to the facts they don't crush and the wad is tougher thus the reason for full choke being for lead only not steel is to mitigate against choke swelling.
With interchangeable chokes you can use steel albeit 2 sizes larger. There is a crossover point between pattern/pellet efficiency/load which has to be learnt.
I went through all this with my magnum proofed 3" Laurona decades ago and there comes a point, where instead of firing say under 2 dozen win xxx magnums in a season, you do have to be careful with your steel loads that every day doesn't become a win xxx day...in the end I gave up and bought a berretta xtrma 1 and all my worries went away. I've stuck with SA's since and now only have the two, one Benelli 3" the other a Franchi 3.5" both of which are 1370 proof one 73/4 lbs the other 6lb both 12s...
hope those wads are biodegradable
and your 1370 proof is actually 1320 under CIP.
Is that the proof pressure or service pressure?proof is actually 1320 under CIP.
