If I lived in the western US or Alaska I’d have one. If I get to go to Africa I’ll have one. It’s just too much rifle for where and what I hunt. Imagine it’s the same for UK. Driven boar would be a perfect fit but that’s such a specialized deal most including me will never do it. Over here most hogs (not boar but still big and nasty) are shot with pretty small calibers. There are just too many other cartridges like 6.5x55 7x57 308 that are great on deer at normal ranges for me to need an 06.

I have a Mod 70 in 30-06 and shot quite a few Sambar with it,yep it puts them down but not as emphatically as the 7mm RM does.No, not very popular by comparison, probably because it does everything the 308 does, but excessively, and not as nicely as 7mm.That does not make it a bad calibre.
the `06 has circa 50% more energy and if you are hammering big boars in the shoulder for instance there is only one winner.
Imperial is not a bad thing as most of us have played the (sitting in the pub) guessing game as a bird walked in.

The 30.06 is a terrific round, but I don't want one. I most of my life used my Grandads 7x57 for the bigger deer including the hard nosed Sika. However I also feel there are more .243 rifles in use in Britain than any other calibre. I have shot all our deer with a .243 and being ancient it's now my go to (mostly) for all deer as it kills them quite adequately.

You can squeese the juice out of it with both light and heavy
It doesn’t stack up when you look at efficiency in powder charge compared to other cartridges but its easy to feed, easy to source, still one of the more popular global long action cartridges

On paper its a 300wm in sheeps clothing
They produced 150gr in both cartridges that was basically the same

I wouldn't worry about that - I've taken loads of muntjac with my 30-06 and there is no worse damage than my .308 or .243 (which I used to use it!).

Me too, I've used 30-06 on muntjac and CWD, as long as you don't hit the shoulder it doesn't make a mess.
