I have a friend, who has applied for his fac and SGC but has been refused on grounds that his medical history,at his current doctors surgery, only goes back to 1990 (when he left the military)
The local fld has refunded his fee and said"thanks but no thanks"
Question is how could this be rectified and would medical cert company be able to circumvent this glitch.
Thanks in advance

He was born in 1965, joined military in 1982, left in 1990 but doctors only have records of him from 1990 on rejoining civdiv

He will have a medical history. Quite possibly an Army one. It's just a case of accessing it. I'd have thought that his medical history would follow him from doctors to doctors though, military or otherwise.

Or......maybe there's something in his older medical history that he doesn't want revealed. Although I'm probably being a bit over-suspicious there. Or possibly his current surgery has only reported on his history with them. But surely the FEO would then ask him to get his earlier history before completely turning him down.

As Alice said: "Curiouser and curiouser."

Ask the surgery if they can get his complete records, I've had a similar issue on my last renewal, as I'd moved jobs and areas in a short space of time, my records hadn't caught up with me, some times it takes years, longer if moving between England, Scotland and Wales. I'd certainly be contacting the firearms dept and explaining the situation and ask them how best to proceed

I assume you pushed back against this rubbish and got it sorted ?

Things are getting ridiculous with renewals. The agenda is quite obvious. Everyone should take out some sort of legal insurance to help them fight cases if they feel it is suitable to do so.

In a few years time i reckon, the renewals (if any) will be granted by a court of law...

The time to fight has passed unfortunately, as this has entered without challenge or opposition or evidence for that matter It will only get worse, I wonder when gun owners will be electronically tagged

I can see drug and alcohol testing in the future. As in urine testing by doctors say every 12 months with the threat of random testing in between.
I have to do it with my job and even bedore i get a pass to enter some sites

My brother in law is a 360 operator and he has to do a urine test every monday morning.

Tbh. - if love stalking and being out there doing what I love the most, but, if the licensing becomes prohibitive, I’ll survive with hill walking, fishing and gardening.

That said, it’s a bit of a storm in a teacup, because we know that without the local hunters, fox and deer control would be impossible on the thousands of small farms around the country, which would start spiralling RTA deer collisions, etc. if anything, I see shotgun related sports disappearing first, because in reality, there’s no need to manage anything with wings apart from possibly wood pigeon, and that’s a maybe.

Time to drag this one out again,
A mate did this a fair while ago .... read it through if you have time this morning?

This is a peculiar situation, H.O. Guidance claims that firearms ownership is "a privilege, not a right" yet section 44 of the Firearms Act details the appeal procedure, if the appeal is successful the Chief of Police is obliged to comply with what the court orders.
Regardless of privileges ultimately if you fulfil the criteria laid down in the Firearms Act gun ownership is a right enforceable by law.

Have they simply suggested he does not progress his application because this data is incomplete, or formally rejected it? If so, they will have stated the appeal deadline and I would strongly encourage him to do so.

It’s utter nonsense. Anything pertinent would have been flagged in these last 35 years and anything before would be historic and irrelevant.

I hardly have any medical history. I had some jabs for travel 15 years ago and I had a bit of a prolonged upset stomach 10 years ago, that went without treatment. My GP only has records back 17 years and goodness knows where I was registered before that as I can’t even recall. Then it would be childhood notes.

Nobody has troubled me to find out, which is sensible and proportionate to the risk.

What do they hope to find? This is risk aversion at its highest, not risk assessment - which is their job.
