Out last night.

Here is a comparison video of a few rabbits taken with a 17hmr and a PARD DS 35-50.
If you compare the video to my zulus videos you can see the 35-50 isn't as good.
Doesn't mean it's not useful though, it is and I get on with the unit quite well.

Nice one Smelly and well timed for me, thanks.
Methinks a second Zulus is the way to go…

Vixen for me last night. First time I've been out in pursuit of foxy since start of June (I think).

Scanned amongst mob of remaining fat lambs. Saw a heat signature i couldn't initially identify. Wrong shape/size for hare, not moving, too big for a bird. Then I through it might be curled up fox. Got rifle up, still not sure but pretty confident- gave a quiet lip squeak & she raised her head; bingo. No obvious shot so waited. Eventually she stood, stretched then went back to sleep permanently. 130yd

First shot was bit far back ☹️ first time that's happened really & she ran a bit. Stopped & 2nd one was good, dropped on spot. An old vixen. Judging by teeth she liked Lambert and butler and sugar donuts in equal amounts.

Well done Ben, You've had a testing year mate.
What did you use last night?

Little vixen for me last night
Had a few days away stalking (drinking and eating ) - back at tea time yesterday to host a few of our beaters having a duck flight - took the rifle too
Set my pal in "the best" spot as i thought i may be a bit tired - but i thought i will have an hour
10 mins after setting up - little vixen at 22 yards

22 yards ...did you club it over the head.

Just in.
#5 This vixen has given me the run around for the last six nights.
She frequents the “flat” on the top of the shoot and would appear with no safe shot on. One of the follies is having its roof re done, so had asked builder if he’d mind putting in an extra run of scaffold so I could prone out and be nicely elevated.
With the change in the weather today I’m cold and wet but jobs done on this problem.

T.

Nice shooting indeed. As matter of interest what moderator are you using on that .17

Couldnt get out last night as rain and fog , disappointed as was going to a large hill farm not shot this season yet.

Tonight looks the same FOG 😢

It was yesterday morning for me. The second mornings stalking with one the previous weekend.

As a novice stalker/shooter with me perm primarily open farm land i am learning the art of spooking large herds of fallow out of safe shooting distance, quite successfully based on the most recent outings.

Although i do feel i am learning, even if only what not to do.

When i stalk i do so from my back door and depending on the wind direction i have a fair idea where the deer may be (assuming there close to my field) and yesterday i was spot on.

A herd of circa 50 fallow, mix of does, some prickets and a mature stage keeping them all in check.

Sadly as is often the case when they're in this location a safe shot wasn't on as i would have had to shoot through a thin hedge so i watched. They moved off, munching on the new growth as they went and in the direction they were going i knew where theyd end up.

I chose a direction where id end up overlooking the filed where they were heading but made the mistake of being too slow. As i got close to where i intended to position myself hoping for a reasonable shot, i disturbed three deer about 20-25m., bugger!! (can i say bugger on here??)

Anyway the herd did appear but having spooked the three deer they stood beyond my comfortable shooting range (they were 250m+ from my position) , so i watched as they moved about back and forth teasing me until they got bored and went off to another part of the farm i have a perm on.

So far this year, nothing for the freezer yet, but ill keep trying and hopefully will get close enough for a reasonable shot.

It's an Atec something.

Thank you for the reply. It just seems that the moderator you are using appears much more effective than the Sak fitted on my Browning 17 T bolt using Vmax.
It doesn't get the use it should due to the b.... whiplash every time the trigger gets squeezed and the proximity of various properties.

Last nights adventures.
Got to farm gate from the road & couldn't disengage the clutch so had to turn off the engine, cap off master cylinder, empty!!.
SWMBO had to go out to source brake fluid, managed to set up by half eight .... Fox rocks up nine o'clock and is quickly mobbed by the large number of sheep present making a shot impossible, sheep then try to trample & head butt Fox.:-|
Called it at this stage to get the crippled vehicle home.
Todays menu: dis assemble master & slave cylinders (going to love that).
That’s the reason should have bought an Auto version!😀

The video isn't a true reflection of the noise!
In saying that I had a Sak many years ago on a WMR and it wasn't very good really.

Horrible night for foxing - heavy rain all day and very thick air tonight but a boy’s gotta do…. Needed have worried, the Pulsar saw all I needed to see.
Up the usual lane - nothing. Got to the very top and saw a signature amongst the sheep, a quick burst on the mini caller and the faint signature morphed into a fox. Came in nicely to 80 or so and not a difficult shot but it had a 5 metre death sprint before realising it was dead, period!

Turned out to be a large and pretty heavy vixen in great fur.
