A .25 for '25

So many ‘had’ and ‘l have ’ and ‘used’ - why no longer?
Because I'm a rifle slut ......... and I got my hands on a 257WM , one of the few Weatherby cartridges ( the other being a 375WM ) that I like . My last 25/06 was a Ruger No 1 with a Moyers trigger . I'd still have it , but one of my oldest friends really liked the rifle and it was his 50th birthday . Long story short , I'm looking for another 25/06 .

I'm interested to see how the .25PRC takes off over here...
It won’t, everyone’s bought a 6.5cm, not enough market space for two marketing stunts in a decade. That’s why now everyone went and bought a Hik Alpex, the whole market is collapsing, even for themselves

You dewy eyed optimist! 6.5 PRC, .300 PRC, 7mm PRC, .22 ARC, 6mm CM…

And that’s just Hornady.

Arguably, every single one of those is a marketing stunt using the same model as 6.5 CM.

Hornady are supposedly working on this cartridge.
It's more than being worked on...its in use in America and has been for a bit. I know of one big dealer in the UK already stocking ammunition for it here in readiness.

I hear you Triggertrix, like I said, interesting to see what happens

Eye wateringly short barrel life touted for chamberings like 22 Creedmoor, yet they take off. Thank God we still like a bit of fun.
As for market saturation, aye, we're a small island, nothing likely to become universally available overnight, if at all. But the majority of folk reload for all these chamberings.

I always fancied a .257 Roberts but they’re rare as hens teeth here as well as .35 Whelen
Another cool cartridge. The 358 winchester sounds interesting too imo, for driving and brush hunting, they're a bit like the american cousins to our 9.3x62 and the 9.3x57.

As for the 257s, , including the 06, people who shot them tend to love them. But yep they are quite rare to see. I guess European based hunters who wanted something like the quarter bob just shot the 6.5x55 and 57 over here, which naturally limited the need for the 257 Roberts .
Now the 25-06 in terms of powder to bore ratio probably didnt really have a close direct rival until the the 6.5-284 and 6.5x65rws came out, so that could have had a niche, well it had, but then again, maybe quite a few hunters who were interested in that sort of cartridge just mainly went for the 7x64 and 270 instead, which prevented the 25-06 from ever becoming greater than it was, in terms of popularity.

Until you want some brass. Which was a factor when i went with a necked up 243AI.
exactly, or a vaster amount of bullet choices, - the 6.5 cal is so similar to the 257 in size and weight but has a significantly wider array of options available i'd think, and cartridges like the 6.5x57 and especially the x55 and the 6.5 Creed already typically come with fast twist barrels, and are probably easier to find brass for too (The creedmoor and swede especially)

So the 257 Roberts, for a while, made sense as an American way of plugging the 6.5x57 and 55 whole that they had in their offerings, but now that they've taken in the 6.5s, and developed new gen catridges for them too, cartridges which are intended to be able to shoot long for caliber bullets in fast twist barrels, i reckon the 257 will find not declining further difficult. Even if they make a 25 PRC. At least without some quite wonderous marketing effort.

Because all in all The 6,5 creed (and 6.5x55 and 57) basically does all a fast twist 257 would and the 6.5 prc (and 6.5x284) does the same to the 25-06.
