So today I delivered some venison and thought I'd have a quick look around before the rain arrived for a squirrel or two.
Approaching a flooded ditch that has needed digging out for over a decade had indeed been dug out, good, now I don't have to go all the way around any more and duely proceeded to jump the ditch.
Big mistake.
I instantly on the other side of said ditch disappeared up to my knees!
I quickly lost my balance and successfully avoided falling backwards into said ditch which could of drowned me!
I next got one wellie out but lost balance again and put the boot back in the same freaking hole! Now it was solid stuck!
I had to get rid of the gun and get out of my wellies and kneel in the black putrid mud and start pulling by hand.
After 10 minutes and with the air turning blue with a purple hue I got one out! Ten minutes later I got the other one!! I was knackered at this point!
I put them back on with cold putrid mud squelching through my toes and gingerly got the feck out of there FFS.
My wrists are hurting as if I had dragged another buck out of the tree line!

And I never got a squirrel but Jess nearly did.

Couple of pheasant this afternoon with my 10g muzzleloader.
Photo is of the first one due to the fact that Jess retrieved it from a deep ditch for me .

Out before light this morning to see what if anything was about with my 3030. I just love being out with my Winchester 94ae.
Eventually it came light and the showers moved in.
I switched ammo and upped the turret 13moa.
Lots of geese moving including pinks. I thought some were going to land in at one point.
The squirrels started to move I thought what the heck.

Phone call on Friday - a few crows on the Maize stubble.

Headed out and set up just as it was getting light on Sat. As always the first hour was good going then it slowed up a little. Shot for just over 4 hours with a mixed bag (mainly carrions) of 49.

Cheers. Always like to get them over anything else (apart from magpies). A few rooks in there and 1 jackdaw so a nice little session....apart from 6 inches of slurry ...but it washes off pretty quick

Yep carrions and magpies are priority. If I see a carrion and a few jacks coming , always try and shoot the carrion first.

Grand morning to be out. Rained heavy then brightened up.
I've been waiting for maize to come off this place and it did this week.
Pheasants everywhere, controlling vermin does make a difference.
Jess worked her heart out!
At one point she asked me if she could go and knock out a pit hole and sent her on.
I should gone with her! She bolted a big fox out of it .
The pinks were wanting to drop in but would hold off on the wind.
Super morning. I declined the hens even though some presented excellent birds and I got a Frenchie as well.

Great stuff Smelly , a rough day is the epitome for me , far better than driven days.

The anticipation of not knowing what you will find in the woods, hedgerows and rough cover.

Out on some recently cut maize removing some corvids for a farmer who was kind enough to give me sole permission to shoot deer and vermin on his 500 acres. If anyone says knocking on doors doesn't work anymore well they are not knocking on the right ones.

Good to hear about Jess...she does look a bit weary but I suggest that if you shouldered the gun the tired dog would be replaced by an excited one ready to be off for another bird. It's a bit o a pity that we don't have the amount of and diversity of bird shooting that you guys have. Another well set up photo of a good morning out shooting as well.
