Once saw a mickey hook and throw a 400+ kilo steer straight over the top of a 6' set of panels like a rag doll. Followed up by near disembowelling several other unfortunates. Couldn't get the rifle out fast enough.

Nah you guys...can't have it that side stepping is an option for my example of a 2000 LB bull charging me at 40KMH.

At 9 yards from me he will take 0.74 seconds to reach me. At 6 yards it's 0.5 seconds. At 3 Yards it's 0.247 seconds. As for at 1 yard and shooting him 1 inch above his eyes he covers that 1 yard in 0.082 seconds. I'd suggest that human reaction times aren't quick enough to do anything. Best to leave the side stepping for line dancing night at the pub....haha.

As for the closing distance - I had my 'experience' in a 'brown' river, waist deep, in retrieving a Bushbuck with chums watching the reptiles showing an interest......nowadays I dont need, or want the 'excitement' or the adrenaline surge

You use a .375 H&H never mind the lowly 338. Brown river,nothing like that here mate,maybe a brown snake or two.

In a thicket about three miles north, Mr. McKelvey ran across the skeleton of a moose, and upon closer investigation, found parts of a human skeleton, which clearly showed that some hunter years ago had shot and wounded a moose and then been killed by the animal. Close by was found a Springfield 45-70 rifle with the breech open, and a shell which had stuck told how the hunter had lost his life. He had evidently fought to a finish for a broken knife (that) was found on the ground.
