I’m afraid it really did come off the shelf
I think you miss understand. Yes the DSC 1 course is now on the shelf for any training provider to deliver, but it was created first to be put on the shelf just like any other course content. Delivery may vary but the subject matter remains the same.

This DMC3 is just made up to promote the interests of people who sell training, expensive paid for stalks and expensive club syndicate places. Not sure how they were allowed to just copy DMQ with their pdsc versions. I guess more money in that than becoming an approved DMQ course provider.?

I hope the wider stalking community reject this. At least as a recognised standard. I’m always up for more training, learning and experience but it’s very misleading in its marketing about what it is.

Interestingly I heard DMQ discussed and rejected the idea of a level 3 a few years ago now.

A bit of seriousness for a second, it is fun when your livelihood doesnt fully depend on these courses and having to do them, and when your employer has contracted you instead of employed you because of their own financial reasons. I have an issue with it and mainly thats the price . ITS £750.

£750 is far out my budget , when you have to do all sorts like ATV certificates and chainsaw , EFAW+F etc the cost of courses is just through the roof .

It also doesnt tell you if you need DSC2 to progress to 3 OK i have DSC2 but others might not and that means you have to pay your £175 for DSC1 , you £375 for DSC2 and THEN £750 for DSC3 , for me I am not sure what benifit .

I will however have to do it IF Nature Scot. Require it but I am struggling as it is . The financial burden is now a big worry for me, there's no money in venison, most feel that £650 a day is too much for an accompanied stalk, so we stopped doing too much of that and the work barely brings in £30k a year. Most of you won't get out of bed for that.

This all just adds up now.

Well if Nature Scot do and for that mater Nature England, require this there will be nobody culling deer at all. Something those who have put their name behind it should think about.
We need to get more people able to shoot competently not less!

Its not affiliated with the oruginal.DSC1 and DSC2 which are dmq..... this is called the dmc3 and its a different entity and doubtful it will be taken on board by NatureScot et al.

This level 3 nonsense is being driven by self proclaimed experts purely for their own selfish interests and greed, there is no need whatsoever for this there is a standard which meets all the requirements that’s level 2, I fully understand that not everyone likes bits of paper but it’s been set in stone now level 2 the governing bodies should realise that we already have the fit and competent register that says you are fit and competent to control deer in a safe manner, the guys pushing this should be ashamed of themselves by trying to install this very unnecessary burden on already very experienced stalkers.

When I did my DMQ1 in 2000 then DMQ 2 in
2010 they were more than enough.
Sounds like a money spinner..
Jobs for the boys so to speak.

IMHO. Buck

I think its this PDS1 lot?
Whether it is or not, who are the people who think they have the experience? As usual it looks like another money making venture, that some will no doubt throw their hard earned cash at it, in the belief it will make them a better stalker.
I doubt any organising this scheme have had anywhere the amount of experience that a number of members on here have had.

A fool and their money are easily parted.

What makes it different from dsc system ?

I should think that's exactly what they have thought about, and are now rubbing their hands with glee as they anticipate that everyone who wants to cull deer is going to be forced to obtain their newfangled level 3 qualification. And pay for it.

At least DSC allows 3 days for level 1. And its £340. Pds1 is anything from £500 for a day.

I've had a few clients take their PDS1 and frankly had learnt bugger all. As far as I know there's not even internal Verifiers or a board. Its all made up as far as I can see.
I agree Malc it does appear to be profiteering and taking advantage of those with more money than sense.

However, I've met several who have gone down the DMQ route and also learnt bugger all, or have at least not retained what they were taught. Also I believe he has gone further with regard to external verification/accreditation than DMQ has?
So no matter what we may personally think of the guy (I personally think he comes across as a bit smarmy) you can't really lay those criticisms on him.

What he has done is caught DMQ comatose, they took their eye's off the ball some time ago, and he has taken full advantage of that for monetary gain.
DMQ need to have a serious rethink about their future strategy and regroup or they will be left in his wake and we will all be the poorer for it (literally).
