Hi, Iv recently failed my shooting assessment but I’m struggling to find a course near to me in West Yorkshire to resit that part. Does anybody do private assessments etc

Thanks in advance

The OP is new to shooting, according to his intro, so perhaps lack of opportunities to prepare?
Plenty of experienced stalkers fail that simple test too. They're the ones you ought to be critical of.
On the day I did my test out of four two both experienced shooters had to take awhile then have another go then passed.
Myself and another guy went after them so they had time to gather there thoughts and then passed on their second try.
I've none other guys fail but it was just nerves I'm surprised they did let the OP have another go or offer him a chance on another day.

was not blaming the op ,the blame lies with the training course ! they failed the attendees as they should have given more guidance and help and prepared the dsc1 correctly ,its a training learning course but his course seemed only about the money being paid .

Anyone can pull a shot even well experienced folk can and have done, if you haven’t pulled a shot or missed then you haven’t shot enough

If everyone passed first go, then it would be worthless as a test. Might as well just issue a certificate of attendance instead of a pass/fail.

Perhaps even a rifle leant to him at the course…. I hate a borrowed rifle… nothing feels right. Good luck on the second go! If you have a centre fire then practise a little just for confidence…. Or if you don’t then give a shout out of your vague location and some kind hearted soul on here might give you an afternoon of their time….. If you’re anywhere near me I’ll certainly give you a hand.

unlucky with your first attempt - it happens to the best of us.

Who are you registered with for the DSC1 - can they do a re-sit, or re-shoot?
Any assessment centre can do your resit so look around for courses near you. It's a bit of a trek but the BDS have an assessment day on the 19-January at Royston, Herts- probably about a 2 hour drive each way. If you are in a hurry, speak to Nick at the training department- if you can get to him in Royston, he can often do it as a 1-2-1 session.

Failed my one first attempts. I'd had a couple of practices with a 308 and a 222-50. All went fine.

Test day I got behind the loan rifle and I had no reticule. Couldn't see it at all. I was told not to make any adjustments to the dials as other people had to use it after me.

I had to guess the reticule and missed 1 shot at 75, on both goes.

I got put in touch with a lovely chap called Glyn, who was BDS working at Sky Park deer farm.

I sat behind his 308 and he took one look and asked me what eye was dominant. I'm right handed but left eye dominant. I was crossing my head over the rifle to get my left eye to the scope.

He asked me to try shooting lefty handed. Instantly a million times better and I've been shooting true lefty ever since

In answer to your actual question, you can re-sit privately. I posted a request on various Facebook groups and had a reply pretty quickly.

Hopefully someone in your area will be willing and able to take you out for some shooting experience and a mock test. If you fancy driving to north Wales I would do so.

I recall doing my 3-day DSCL1 course. Chris Howard was the primary Instructor. Day 2, and after a bit of classroom banter about shot placement, Chris asked if I was a member of the BSRC. Having answered "yes", he went on to inform me that I had "better not fooook-up the shooting test."

No pressure!

Richard, did you ask for the cert to be embossed in parchment?
