I've currently got a sauer 100 .243 and Mauser M12 in .308. I fancy swapping the .243 for a 6.5prc what's people's thoughts on the calibre. Mainly roe at the moment.

6.5 PRC is a superb cartridge for large deer at long range in windy conditions.

It blows roe apart at ranges under 200m.

If you really want to get rid of your .243, then the Creedmoors (6.5 and 6mm) would be much better if the target is mainly roe.

Fantastic cartridge, certainly arrives with authority!

I have a .243, .308 and a 6.5 PRC, the .308 is now largely redundant!

As said above, its a bit violent on the smaller deer!
Not too bothered about meat damage tbh. Out of interest did you have any issues getting those 3 calibres together

No sir, submitted my variation online with a justification written out in the comments section and my varied cert arrived a few weeks later!

I use the PRC north of the border mostly for the ground we look after up there and out on the open hill... passed 250/300 it certainly outshines the old .308 and its tennis ball like trajectory 😆

My .308 does come out for woodland fallow on a pals bit as its so short, handy and light!

At 6'4" with a 24" prc barrel + mod strapped to my back like a flag pole, walking through the woods becomes a ball ache rather quickly 😅

While that certainly drops them, it does tend to turn the front end to mince.

What bullet do you use?
Last couple I did were clean at front end, no more messy than any other bullet calibre, .243 Win / 6.5x55 Swede / .270 Win ... even head neck shots can produce hydrostatic bruising unexpectedly, 6.5 PRC 143 gn eldx last two, Shoot summat it's going to hurt.😁 .22long in the napper .... clean carcase as per the poachers🫣

Not all loads are destructive in the prc. In a couple of clients rifles recently we chronographed 143gr Hornady factory ammunition at 2730fps. Thats 100fps Slower than my creedmoor home loads. Yes it can be loaded hot on the top end but don’t just assume that because its a prc that it’s going to be fast

If you’ve got that itch scratch it.
The PRC with YewTree 114grain TLR is a great combination. Will need to home load though.
To get the best out of the PRC you would really benefit from a 24”, or longer, barrel making it pretty cumbersome for woodland.

That's absolutely shocking velocity. My 143g eldx factory were just sub 3kfps and accurate as any of my home loads (genuinely quater of an inch) to the point I've attempted to replicate them. Im sure @finnbear270 was the same but stuck with factory
