I've currently got a sauer 100 .243 and Mauser M12 in .308. I fancy swapping the .243 for a 6.5prc what's people's thoughts on the calibre. Mainly roe at the moment.
That's another possibilityIf you're going to shoot them at 300m - absolutely. It's a lovely, versatile calibre. Bit strong for woodland roe IMO. Keep the 243, swap the 308....!
6.5 PRC is a superb cartridge for large deer at long range in windy conditions.I've currently got a sauer 100 .243 and Mauser M12 in .308. I fancy swapping the .243 for a 6.5prc what's people's thoughts on the calibre. Mainly roe at the moment.
Not too bothered about meat damage tbh. Out of interest did you have any issues getting those 3 calibres togetherFantastic cartridge, certainly arrives with authority!
I have a .243, .308 and a 6.5 PRC, the .308 is now largely redundant!
As said above, its a bit violent on the smaller deer!
No sir, submitted my variation online with a justification written out in the comments section and my varied cert arrived a few weeks later! Not too bothered about meat damage tbh. Out of interest did you have any issues getting those 3 calibres together
Exactly what i use and covers everything I come across in the UKAs above. The 243 and 6.5PRC would be a better balance
Not with a suitable bullet, it doesn't.6.5 PRC is a superb cartridge for large deer at long range in windy conditions
It blows roe apart at ranges under 200m.
What ammo do you useNot with a suitable bullet, it doesn't.
While that certainly drops them, it does tend to turn the front end to mince. This^ & poke the rivet out of the shoulder.

Last couple I did were clean at front end, no more messy than any other bullet calibre, .243 Win / 6.5x55 Swede / .270 Win ... even head neck shots can produce hydrostatic bruising unexpectedly, 6.5 PRC 143 gn eldx last two, Shoot summat it's going to hurt. While that certainly drops them, it does tend to turn the front end to mince.
What bullet do you use?
I try to.surely under 200m you are head or necking them so it wont matter?
That's absolutely shocking velocity. My 143g eldx factory were just sub 3kfps and accurate as any of my home loads (genuinely quater of an inch) to the point I've attempted to replicate them. Im sure @finnbear270 was the same but stuck with factoryNot all loads are destructive in the prc. In a couple of clients rifles recently we chronographed 143gr Hornady factory ammunition at 2730fps. Thats 100fps Slower than my creedmoor home loads. Yes it can be loaded hot on the top end but don’t just assume that because its a prc that it’s going to be fast
