Calibre for foxes in wind

Most 50gr bullets at 150 yds won't move much to make a difference, especially when fox is sideways on. Wind is more of a problem when trying to keep rifle still when its blowing a hooley.
Do agree was out one night this year and had the wind take my rifle off the top of the truck but have found a 250 is pretty good in the wind but that night I had a fox in the scope for about 5 mins at 250 ish yard but couldn’t bring my self to loose one of at it in that wind so let it be where as if I had the 243 with me I would
Of shot it

I reckon you will still shoot more foxes in a breeze though, its staggering what a fox can hear at 150 yds on a still night

2" on what wind , contour , under twist compared to over twist . left spin or right twist differences . ??? bullet Speed in bucking wind is not a big factor" of speed" but one of contour and then then BC ,
A real good Idea is - to zero on easy days and stalk deer or practice on the windy days .

What are you actually talking about? Contour of what? What has the direction of spin got to do with the distances most people shoot foxes at? If you're going to spout utter rubbish then why bother?

243 and 75 grain vmax is my favoured combination for Mr. Fox, most of my permissions are Welsh Hill farms, lots of shooting across valleys and open hill and lots of foxes accounted for!

For a fox the 75 grainer seems to be a great balance of retained energy and 'bucks' the wind reasonably well at decent ranges.

I have 22" tight twist 22-250 with 75ELDM doing 3150fps. Has same BC as my 308 168gr which only does 2600fps. I use the 22-250 out to about 600m on fox. Shoots a bit flatter in the 200-300m range than my 6.5CM with 120-140gr. Getting closer to fox is very often not an option. In the past I found a tight twist 223 69-75gr to be more effective at longer range fox than a 50gr 22-250. Slow twist 22-250 is great for lamping when there is no time to dial.

May I make the suggestion?

How about get closer to the fox to take the shot, then you don’t have to worry about wind!?

No new rifle required
But that obviates the need for endless discussion and going and spending lots of money on the excitement of getting a brand shiny new rifle.

However even the likes of the 22 ARC or Creedmoor still drift in the wind - by about 3” in a 10mph wind at 250 yards.

A 10mph wind is a gentle breeze just rustling the grass. The sorts of winds that buffet you about and blow things over are 30mph plus, so your 3” is now 9” plus.

They are a bit better, but any rifle is affected by wind.

What’s to get excited about you pulled the trigger it goes bang!

Might be me being old-fashioned but as soon as people realise that rifles are tools not toys the better😂🙈💩😂😂

Personally I think stick with 22.250 and shoot it more often in conditions you struggle with. Get better with practice note impact change in certain conditions. Or pick your nights, done it got the T shirts and still doing it.
If say you got a 6.5 whatever, the problem will still be there, albeit less drift but you then have the drops and wind.

Let’s be clear - “need” and anything related to getting another rifle is merely superfluous discussion….
