Shooters are giving up

The "gallery range" exemption I'd assume? Yes you are correct. My local shooting centre also operated on certain days under that set of rules for .22 rimfire only.
And I think that, generally, for walk-ins 22lr is only prudent.
Get them hooked and signed up and then introduce them to PCC and fill-bore.

In the last 5 years we've helped over 50 members go from ab initio to FAC holder, mostly through the walk-in route as their introduction to the sport.

It might help if the NRA gave thought to more regular and all-encompassing "Open Days" at Bisley.

I've always enjoyed the ones I've assisted with in the context of Sporting Rifle, even though the 'coaching' is full-on and not for slackers.

I know of three people who have packed in because of medical checks, nothing wrong with them, they just can't be bothered with the extra hassle, two I know are giving up due to the increased costs of not only renewing but also increase in the price of ammunition and club fees etc going up
Again if you cant be bothered thats your problem, do they not go shooting much I presume so not worth it.

Shooting is my passion and therefore will continue regardless of hassle and cost , what else would I do if I stopped ?

Vermin will always need controlling.

Shooters are paying the price for the whole fieldsports industry having sat on its hands, buried its collective head in the sand for years.
I see the antis are making a concerted effort this year to ban pheasant shooting ?

It does appear to be the case and yes, not a very good prognosis for the sport; as our numbers reduce so does our ability to resist any ill thought legislation. We perhaps should be doing all we can to introduce someone new to the sport, we all have a neighbour, co worker, or family member who would be interested given the chance.
On the subject of dwindling number, youll find that lots of clubs, hobbies and organisation are slowly aging into oblivion. Folks seem less inclined to both spend money and leave the house.

We coached on all the open days they've had and they were hard work.
The NRA realised that there was minimal uptake of new shooters from the days and the cost far outweighed the return.
Now they sort of make it easier for, or try to encourage, clubs to run guest days themselves.
Not having run one with our club so I don't know first hand how easy it actually is.

We ran one recently, anyone attending had to have their details sent to the police at least 48hrs before the event with a signed declaration, guests were the responsibility of the person who invited them and a RO oversaw the running of the day, all of them enjoyed the day and two of them have since applied to join the club

I would say - like many of us - its our lives Nick
Not just the shooting - but the outdoors - the things we see - the good we do

We primarily shoot at Hythe and Lydd , last year Landmark stopped all guest days and now unless your and club member or a probationary member you cannot shoot or even touch a rifle,
This basically cuts off any one who would like to see if it’s for them,
Just another cut in the death of a thousand,

We have zero shops anymore to buy shooting related stuff, clays shoots are being built on,
What we’re seeing now is the last hurrah for gun ownership in the UK, big brother is alive and well just 40 years older,
Ill decide if im packing it in around the end of 27 ‘ as my ticket expires in April 28’
I’ve had a lifetime of shooting and enjoyed it for over 50 years,
I’ve written to my MP’s been on marches filled in loads of consultations blah blah
Hasn’t made one iota difference!
I’ve lost my self loading full bores my Rosco’s
and Wheel guns, my absolute favourite pump 357 rifle,
Shotguns going section one will kill most of them and what survives will be killed by the lead ban,
Enjoy it while you can 🧐

We have again this year had numerous new entrants to our way of life and many "moving up" from shotguns to rifles as well

It does make a difference and tbh the lead ban need not kill off anyone's shooting
