Went to do some work in the pheasant penns yesterday as it was the only dry day we have had. I got a big surprise when I saw a hen harrier. I watched it hunt along the margins of a large field, only a few feet off the ground. It was a male, and I was variously 100 to 250 yards from it. After a couple of minutes it disappeared from view. Its the first one I have ever seen, and I thought they were rare in the south of England. Has anyone else in Kent seen one ?
