Strange Kidney

These are some photos of kidneys from an otherwise very healthy Sika hind i shot the other day. Any suggestions as to what it maybe?1000053547.webp1000053546.webp1000053548.webp

I have seen this type of kidney damage over years in butchering, i would assume that any problems regarding infection and being in the food chain would have been brought up from inspection and the carcass condemned.
Could it be Kidney stones ? i understand that certain damage to kidneys do create voids

I would think it's congenital.
The kidney looks to be functioning properly? If infection to/from the organs or abscessed then that would be obvious in the surrounding tissue.
If no other signs of illness elsewhere, then the abnormalities are confined to the kidneys, the carcass good to go.
I agree fully. The deer was in perfect health and very heavy in calf. Great fat on her as well.

The only reason I posted the pics is because it is the first time I have seen anthing like that on a kidney.

Could be cystic kidney. Seen this commonly can be single or multiple cysts. . If other kidney is normal and no urine smell on opening carcase then probably ok for food chain .

Agree, likely cystic kidney - ie nothing to worry about if otherwise healthy.
Abscess likely to be plastered to surrounding structures. This looks like it has clear tissue planes.

Removed a human kidney yesterday where there had been a previous abscess and all rather different.
