Potential Guntrader scam

Hi guys, just a heads up about a potential scammer I came across this afternoon on Guntrader. I’m currently looking for a new rail-mounted scope and found a Swarovski Z8i 3.5–28x50, boxed with lens covers and a mount, for… wait for it… £1,500.

I emailed the seller through Guntrader — the listing said the seller was a Peter from Norfolk. I gave him my mobile number, and about an hour later I received a WhatsApp message from someone completely different: a guy calling himself Antonio Tranchedone. He’s claiming the scope is still available, but when I asked a few basic questions about it, everything suddenly went very quiet.

We’ll see what happens next, but I smell a big fat rat with this one. Rest assured, I haven’t — and won’t — be parting with any money.

Sorry to say but to me Guntrader looks to be nothing more than an unpoliced opportunity for scammers & criminals.

I wouldn’t trust Guntrader to tell me the time of day. I’ve had thousands of scam emails since they were hacked and then dodged responsibility by doing a phoenix

I messaged someone on gunstar about a hw100 with a scope and 4lt bottle also underpriced at £720 and the same name Antonio tranchedone has messaged me on WhatsApp about it, All seemed well until I said I could collect it and pay cash or bank transfer whatever works best for him and he has ignored me since. The phone number also doesn’t even dial if you attempt to call

Update to my own reply “Antonio” has just replied and sent me a postcode to collect so I’m unsure maybe no scam but a language barrier ? I’m really not sure

Was it cash on collection? Might be waiting in a dark car park with a baseball bat

He didn’t actually say. Just sent me a postcode of somewhere in Kingston (kt5) but the original ad said he was from Worcester I asked about it and he said his partner listed it and that’s where she lives and it was her name on the ad instead of his. I just said that’s too far for me to collect and I wasn’t interested anymore.
