Hi, Tying to sort out shipping a rifle stock to Latvia!
It seems couriers want to treat it as a firearm?
Has anyone any ideas?

I gave up trying to send Raven carbon stocks to Europe, UPS, etc' returned them. Thought I'd be smart, and use Parcel Farce, knowing how generally incompetent they are...................NOT with my stock !

Returned with packaging intact, so must have x-rayed it. Never sent as a "stock".

If you look at the various T's & C's, even "water pistols" are banned.

Opening paragraph of the Government Website on export of Firearms.

A “stock” is a “component part” of a firearm. It might only be a piece of wood, or carbon fibre or aluminium, but a barrel is only a piece of steel. But just like a barrel, a rifle with out a stock is fairly useless. We also keep forgetting that since we are no outside the EU sending goods to the EU countries, such as Latvia, is definitely considered an export, whereas moving goods between different EU countries is not “export to another country”.

Overview

Firearms, and their parts, components, accessories or ammunition and related software and technology are controlled strategic goods. Unless an exception applies, you need a licence to export any controlled firearms from the UK to another country.

This applies to:

  • individuals
  • businesses, including registered firearms dealers
  • both permanent, and temporary exports, such as for an exhibition, a competition or for the purpose of a holiday
It is a criminal offence to export controlled goods without the correct licence. Penalties vary depending on the nature of the offence.
This information is for guidance only. It is not a statement of law. Before exporting, you should refer to the legal provisions in force at the time. Where legal advice is required, exporters should make their own arrangements.

More details.

I work for RM and Parcelforce in engineering
Every single thing that goes abroad is X Rayed and anything Gun related not being shipped through an RFD gets blocked more or less or is meant to and it’s probably cause of the liability side of things

funnily enough they don’t seem to care about scopes or ****

Thanks, for clarity, this was a bare stock, minus any metalwork, or receiver. But I won't be trying again !

Luckily the buyer has a relative in London so out of my hands, thankfully as I am using the funds to pay for the PSE stock I ordered last week.

It's almost impossible unless you use the services of a professional middleman. I gave up in the end a got a friend to take it to Norway and forward it to Canada from there!
