Reloading Advice

Not for FEO proof, but I keep records of all my reloading as I am quite scientificaly minded and also rather anal.....
I use AirTable to keep a database. The free version is all I need, and it's AI powered, so you can just tell it what you want and it will create the database for you.
I use the following tables:
Guns: Name, Calibre, Type, Serial Number, Barrel Length, Twist, Notes
Brass: Brand, Lot #, Caliber, # Firings, Quantity, Condition, Notes
Other components: Brand, Type (Powder, Primer, Bullet Heads), Type/Weight, Quantity, Lot #, Low Stock Alert, Notes
Loads: Gun, Brass, Quantity, Bullet, Primer, Powder, Powder Charge, Shoulder Bump, Bullet Seating Depth, Cartridge BTO, Velocity, SD, ES, Notes
Sessions: Location, Weather, Temperature, Wind, Gun, Load, Rounds Fired, Group Size, Point of Impact, Accuracy Notes, Observations, Target Photo
Chronograph Data: Session, Load, Gun, String Number, # Shots, Average Velocity, SD, ES, Timestamp, Notes
Yeah, this might be overkill, but I love a bit of data and as the whole thing is relational and AI powered, I can ask questions like "which powder and charges gives the lowest SD for a particular bullet", " how does brand X bullet compare to brand Y in gun Z" or "how do weather conditions affect a particular load"...

I'm sorry, but I had to keep from spitting out my coffee from laughing, when I read this. A whole "6" firearms (or more) is a large quantity?
And yes, Lincolnshire is exceptionally stingy in their interpretation of the regulations.
I take that many, just to gun range at times. Smh....

I had that kind of nonsense from a FEO once (Hants FLD of course!) , never been asked again but I ended up just knocking up a simple table on MS Word for my own purposes , which I do find useful to refer back too.

It's absolutely not necessary to have any record of reloading to show an FEO.
However, for my own personal records, I like to keep tabs on what I've reloaded using Microsoft Exell.
I record all the details, incl. when anneald &chorono data occasionally. Helpful for referring back.

Damned unusual for a privilege to be subject to a legal right of appeal, enforceable by law if successful!
Interesting thread and in fairness to the Op I can understand his desire to tick boxes and have all ducks aligned.
The following will not be of great help, I'm sure, but long ago I stopped reloading to my FAC imposed limit for each chambering and simply cranked the press handle in advance of a Match Day or when deer/vermin rounds dropped below 10. This was initially with a view to never falling foul of my maximum legal stockpile figure by a single round. Anyone remember the days when expanding 'heads' (
) counted towards one's entitlement??
The great advantage of this, for the home loader, is you no longer have need to find secure storage for c5000 rounds of mixed CF ammunition!

The standard drill is to painstakingly keep notes until you get the perfect load. Then loose said notes until 3 days after you sell the rifle.

No problem. We are always being told that firearms ownership is a privilege not a right, but that is merely a political opinion and not what the Firearms Act states. Under section 44 you have a right of appeal against a refusal to grant or renew and if upheld by the courts the Chief of Police is compelled to grant or renew. I can sort of understand the FEO wanting to know what you’re using the firearm for - but if, like me, you’re shooting deer, then my deer records show date/tines/locations of deer shot. That (to me) shows useage.
I can see those throwing ammo down a range may not have that easy remedy.
If the FEO wanted more proof I’d recommend they speak to the butcher that handles my input, noting all the carcass tags that relate to my records. I doubt they’d pursue that option.

Well, the law has never seen and probably never will see my database. Nor have they asked for any loading data.
But what I am doing with it is keeping highly accurate records of what works and what doesn’t - and how different components, measurements and environmental conditions effect performance - which then allows me to make predictions based on real data.
Each to their own..z
