No one is sticking up for these guys if they have committed a crime .But it dose seem that when things like this come up people in my opinion over react. A year for each deer some one said.= 10 years come on lads its only a few deer there not drug dealer ,rapist's ,child, molesters,Or murderers. all would have had a lesser sentence.
Lets keep it in perspective and hope the powers that be give them a sentence to fit the crime

The post was ********. That was obvious to begin with, I answered it to say that anyone in that situation should get legal advice sharpish, just as I would to any "stalker "who gets caught shooting over the fence (not that that ever happens eh ?)

The hunting life is an excellent site and is strictly moderated,, but it is always fun to see the usual superiority complexes shouting there mouths off. Amusing since most of the deer round my way are poached by stalkers

Surprised no ones suggested shooting the dogs yet.

It's good to see that some people who use this site are half sensible!
Who's to say they didn't have permission from the land owner? Still illegal but is it any different from a hunt "accidentally" killling a fox??
If rifles are banned tomorrow, i know for a fact that i'll be a criminal within the week!

Presicely. Hunting deer with dogs was legal not that long ago, so it`s hardly surprising that some still take an interest in it, just the same as hunting them with bows gets people interested as well.

Just like how it's hardly surprising that some 'still take an interest' in stealing your car, your dog or your lead flashing and just like how some 'still take an interest' in fighting their dogs with little thought as to the welfare of the animals involved.

I'm sorry, but no comparison can be drawn between a fox or stag hunt as they were, with packs of dogs, means of humane follow up in daylight and consent from the landowners, and a poaching little urchin running a lurcher on deer under the cover of darkness. Assuming anything he has posted on that site is true - He has little or no respect for his quarry, the owner of the property he might have damaged gaining entry, the legitimate stalkers whose stalking and management he is ruining, or even his own dogs. Read this bloke's posts... he can't even be bothered to take his dogs to the vet, preferring to 'staple them up' himself. He is even purchasing antibiotics from shady sources to medicate them.

I'm genuinely surprised anyone legitimately involved in deerstalking would make any sort of allowance for this sort of thing.

Unbelievable!!!

So you guys think that is acceptable to go 10 handed, lamping and running deer with dogs, on other peoples land!! Hardly 'taking an interest' is it?

If that makes me a 'superiority complex'.....so be it.

Any sympathy for these people surely has no place on this site??

That post was total rubbish and it was obvious,
As I have said before, I do not condone poaching, especially stalkers shooting other folks deer, but do get amused at some of the attitudes on here,
Funny how many of them are keen to be seen defending hare coursing dressed up as fighting the hunting ban, but then go on to say how they hate hare coursers.
Deer coursing was just the same, a legitimate method of hunting. I`m sure plenty of old coursers will be happy to stand side by side with stalkers when the antis try and get that banned as well..... or mibbe not.

The simple mention of dogs brings out the lofty attitudes.

Sadly the incident would appear to be genuine. On Friday night / Saturday morning, very close to where I live, three persons from South Yorks were arrested.
At least two vehicles were involved, an ATV and a Landrover. The ATV team were lamping and working the dogs. They did not have permission to drive all over fields and crops. Ten deer carcasses were found, some lying on the brink of a ditch whilst the others had been thrown into the water. It would appear that the carcasses had been dumped when the poachers realised that the police were closing in on them. The landrover whilst trying to evade the police, was driven into a ditch and the three occupants arrested.
I saw the carcasses, which were mainly Chinese Water Deer and a couple of Muntjac, one of which was a young fawn. Ten deer carcasses, savaged by dogs made a very sorry sight.
With so many similarities to the incident outlined on Hunting Life, it is most likely one and the same. Whether one of the persons arrested actually posted it is a matter for speculation of course. Anyone having any information should consider passing it to Cambridgeshire police.

Where did anyone say that poaching was OK,? maybe you haven`t read the replies correctly

Stealing cars, dogs and lead has always been illegal. I'd never condone breaking the law.....

unless it was a stupid law!

It's pretty clear that if this story was true, then the lads involved would not have permission. That's not on, You can't go round taking deer where they belong to someone else (morally I mean, not legally).

But, I'll happily admit that if I won hundreds of millions of pounds on the lottery for example, I'd buy a massive estate in Scotland and complete my cull with a bow. The hares would be coursed by long dogs and nobody would know a thing about it. Legally I'd be a criminal but I reckon I could live with the moral implications.

Calm down ladies or youll be dropping a stitch..

Cant see what all the fuss is about..

Down here in Poole red diesels hit an all time high of nearly 40p a litre..

When youve got a family and all them dogs to feed whats a man supposed to do..

A lot of the lads here in Poole harpoon their deer as they swim between the nine harbour islands.

Theres actually quite a local demand for floaters as theyre called as the salt water brings a lovely flavour to the meat.

40p/litre !!!

72p/litre + here ... Poached Scotland's oil too? Geez!

Is this a joke?

Not when the sea's choppy it isnt...

We use a " but out" to pull the anus back and tie off with string and pop an apple in their mouth.. They float lovely

If they pinch an outboard off the local boats on the way back in to cover fuel costs they sometimes tie the deer alongside to make a rib if theres a real swell on..
