I've always took a great deal off interrest in reading these theads and it has truely amazed me 12 pages and not 1 dummy spat out yet!!!
I think that is a bloody massive leap a thread like this 1,2 or 3 years ago would have been hand bags at dawn and folk banned all over the shop. In my eyes that shows how far u have come in a pretty short space off time really. There is still a lot to be sorted out but more and more people are signing from the same hymn sheet now and i'm sure over the months and years that will only grow.
Probably the way forward is to get as many training/ dogs for deer days as possible and try to get as many newbies doing the basic's while also taking the more experienced boys to the next level
Cookingfat, are ur courses throu the NGO oversuscribed? or is there a limit to the number of courses they run every year. Althou i imagine a lack of time of the few good knowledable trainers and a lack of other good knowledable trainers could also be a problem. Possibly courses to train the trainers? althou i imagine that would be like ur advanced courses anyway
I think the big problem u may have which will be very hard to solve is the simple fact most folk i know lead pretty hectic lives and are busy with work plus there normal family life. If u lose a deer at last light on a sunday nite i imagine it may be a problem finding a team to go out as most folk will be working. Supose not fair to concentrate on that a it's more about the many other deer the
register will find thou.
Finally and possibly slightly off topic but how does it work on the continent, i get the whole welfare side off things. I'm struggling to get my head round the finnacial side off things, if u have 2 shoots in 1 commercial driven large game fairly regulary shooting biggish bags and paying beaters, and the other local boys out once or twice a year shooting small bags. While i appreciate the welfare stanards should remain the same but i think it is unfair that a large shoot run as a profit making business gets all ur hard work and training put into ur dog for free.
I know this is different way off thinking but hard to get out off the uk dog working mindset, i moan a bit over here about beaters/pickers up's pay, not a problem on small family type shoots but if a shoot is ran for a profit they should pay u a proper wage, don't get other businesses paying folk £30 for a days work so they can make an extra profit
Wish u all the best with it, as i said earlier a few years ago i thought it would be a really loooong way off but i dinae think u are that far way now. Just a case of educating f**kwits like me now
