I have a .300wm which I never use, it is in my mind an inefficient round. Bullet placement is everything and
any 7mm with 168-180grn VLD bullets will outperform any .30 cal in the accuracy department, even the modern 6 & 6.5mm rounds are winning more 1,000yd competitions than .30 cal chamberings these days. Below is a link to an article by Bryan Litz:

not too many deer shot at 1000yds and at stalking ranges no calibre is more accurate than another unless you are shooting bench rest ammo through custom rifles off concrete benches
7mm cap out around the 180gr mark, you want heavier than that and you need to get fatter
Energy is the key IMO
and lets be honest there isn't a deer in the country that won't die quickly from a well placed 243, 308, 6.5x55, 260 or similar......no-one in the UK NEEDS a 7mm Rem Mag or a .300 Win Mag......but I know which round looks more impressive when you whop it on the table!
i use a 7mm rem mag and to be totaly honest it shoots better than the 300win mag.
yours or in general? all very subjective really
just think bc 7mm is far better than the 300win mag at distance
actually.....in a purely paper based exercise...there is very little if anything in it at 1000 yds
