Roe rut 2014

As I understand it, hot, humid, stormy weather often catalyses the rut, and this is the forecast for where Foss and I are going this weekend:

Outlook for Friday to Sunday

A mix of sunny spells and heavy showers, particularly through the weekend, some thundery with localised downpours. Feeling very warm and humid, perhaps locally hot on Saturday. Warm at night.
so anywhere in britain then

Well I went down south to my little piece of ground last weekend and saw 1 buck!! And he was just over the Boundry too , typical , saw lots of does but the bucks were hiding , on the plus sued I got 2 muntys and a charlie so it's not all bad :)
well done jimbo:thumb:,

Anyone seeing signs of the rut anywhere yet?
In spring board mode here ready to dash to the Borders! Cheers, K

With the heights of the crops on my permissions just now they could be 6ft away dressed in neon lycra and I wouldn't see them.

Out last night saw an old buck which we couldn't get a shot at as grass too tall, doe in same field, oblivious of each other. So No.

Out last night and saw plenty of deer, two bucks included and one was mature with no interest in the buttalo but out just off the boundary so he was safe, the other a younster and is now hanging

Two weeks here anyway before it will kick off

Took a buck this morning that was with a doe. Wherever she went he was hot on her tail.
She was moving around and not trying to get too far away from him.
Saw another couple of bucks on there own just meandering up field edges heading back to the woodland.

Was out last night and seen 8 bucks and 22 does. There was no rutting activity but I tried the buttalo in very thick areas to check if there were deer in the area. 3 mature does reacted so we are not far off from starting.

3 mature does reacted so we are not far off from starting.
What has mature does reacting to the call got to do with the rut may I ask? As soon as there are kids on the ground at the end of May they will react to the call. It's got nothing to do with the rut starting two months or so later though!

Just got back from a weekend , starting Friday and ending this morning on the Roe.

Rut is on the verge of breaking out. Called a non typical 6 point buck into a lone doe on Friday morning and also so good 6 point with 4 does in a wheat field. He was with them but not taking any real interest.
However he fell to the rifle later in the evening when we returned and he was with 2 does.

Weather hot humid, rain on Sunday. Nearly has another small buck this morning but didn't quite get onto him and he was off. With 2 other does.

I think by the middle of this week to the end it will be well in.

End result was 2 bucks for one client, and another client nearly had one. All saw deer, both Roe and Fallow.

Out last night and at 9.15pm in wonderfull early susnset light watched a buck persue a doe for a good 10 mins. They were racing through some very tall grass over 3 fields so 5-600 yds he kept loosing her and then she let him catch up and off they would go. She was well out pacing him and then suddenly it stopped. He lay down presumably out of puff and effectively disappearead and she was feeding about 30 yds away as if nothing had happened.

So looks like its about to really get going. Forecast to get v hot end of week so could be in full swing ( nicely coinciding with the CLA) South Glos

I was passing Westhill just outside Aberdeen last Friday morning and I saw a buck chasing a doe in a field of Barley. Weather up here in this neck of the woods just now is rather close and humid, ideal conditions for the roe rut, so I gather it will be an early and hopefully an impressive rut this year. The last couple of years the rut on my ground near Alford has been rather disappointing.

just got back from nr Abingdon , no sign at all , seen plenty of does but no bucks , also before i went up stalked into a nice 6 pointer , no interest in the buttolo ,(he wasnt on my cull plan) only 120 mtrs off him , just lifted his head and back down ,the next two fields both had does in them .

seen a buck chasing a doe Saturday morning ,sticking his nose up her arse, few more does about ,and a nice six pointer .
went back Saturday night ,tried a few calls, nothing .

always find early mornings fair better . will be out again the weekend.

had 3nice bucks all from the same spot all shot within 10yards off each other over the last 4weeks lots off bucks fighting for the ground

Nothing here, seen a nice six pointer all alone grazing happily , until some fallow prickets came to say hello, was a good evening for deer, four stags and two staggys with two hinds in another field, and about twenty fallow bucks and prickets in next doors field.

Anything happening In Berkshire yet anyone that way ?
Cheers

I was out with a member of the SD last Sunday in West Berks and saw quite a few roe does and a couple of Bucks. They were getting a bit interested in the does but not chasing. We took one of my ground. Will be out again later this week to see how things are progressing.

North Yorkshire. Just got home one buck interested in buttlo but very cage about it every time I peeped he gave a short bark lol I felt like Dr doolittle eventually he winded me a off he went
Half hr later 500 meters away a doe with no buck anywhere near totally blanked the call.
Regards
Jimmy
