243 fazination???

At least with a 44 it makes a big hole going in and and most of the bullets are not going to fragment like the 243 so the 44 gets good penetration. I guess a 243 is ok for shooting small European deer but then they are just "small game" aren't they.

I imagine you're trying to get a rise - but I doubt anyone would argue that roe were anything but small game!

Have you actually shot with a .243? Try it - you might like it...

My father once had a 243. As I recall, the follower was anodized pink. Only the follower so it was hidden from casual observation. He could not abide it so it was a short possession.

Cool I'll use 500 grain solids in my 45-120, big hole going in n'all. Thanks for the heads up.

honestly, the .243 is a great little round. bucks the wind and has good reach for foxes and vermin, also excellent, truly excellent on small deer species, either with light highly fragmenting bullets for head/neck shots, or 85-100g for high shoulder or heart/lung shots. Easily handles red deer,, except for could be considered a touch on the small side for the big rutting stags. Also, puts light deer down quick and doesn't cause excessive meat damage, although I realise that lingers on bullet construction, speed and placement too, but ceteris paribus.

I think one of either 7x57, .257 or .243 would be my chosen 'go to' and 'do it all' UK calibre, if foxing/vermin/light deer focused in the majority, either the .243 or the quarterbore, but if light to medium deer was the majority of the work, 7x57

You go on a fishing expedition and cry bully when they bite??

You don't see me cry, I know the 243 girls can't handle a real gun. I recall the operative word used here is "adequate", more like "minmal and all they can handle".
