Scotch recommendations

I don't know. I don't think it "ages" more though and I believe a bottle from the real life "Whisky Galore" wreck when opened in recent years was not drinkable. But maybe that would be due to sea water ingress.

In 2010 five cases of Mackinlay's whisky were found under the hut that Sir Ernest Shackleton had used as the base camp on his 1908 Antarctic Expedition. Three bottles were brought back to the distillery of Whyte & Mackay (who had acquired the Mackinlay brand) and sufficient whisky was extracted through the cork using a syringe for it to be tasted. It was found to be in remarkably good condition, and a new whisky was blended to replicate the original. The fact that the cases had been encased in permafrost for over a century certainly helped to preserve it.

You can still buy a Shackleton whisky which, whilst no longer a replica of the original, is a remarkably smooth blend. You can read the full story of the whisky in a book called "Shackleton's Whisky" written by Neville Peat.

Well I will trot out Davids bottle (JAK fame) thats been resting in my safe for a few years now. Purchased by me nine years ago for the man....we are yet to take the top off in celebration of our friend.
It may be that its JAW,who knows but the undeniable strength of friendship will overcome anything JAW in that bottle.
