Scotch recommendations

whisky is actually dyed you know to the colour they want.
E150A is added.

This is correct for a lot of whiskey. I think it’s often referred to as caramel (or no caramel added). Some single malt offering, usually cask strength ones, make a point of stating; “no added colouring” / “without caramel” / are “naturally bottled”.

My collection recently expanded of the cask strength speyside varieties. 🤤IMG_0587.webp

Not a huge speyside fan personally but do like the Japanese stuff (probably due to happy memories of drinking lots of it on honeymoon!).

Sainsbury's have Bushmills 12 year old on at a decent price at the minute, which is very drinkable. Also just had a bottle of Tincup (available through Amazon) - I usually find American bourbon a bit harsh but quite liked this (I know this is a "Scotch" thread but hopefully I won't get banned for mentioning bourbon as we seem to have strayed into other geographies already!).

You are forgiven - try this…

Haha. Even more different answers than "what's the best calibre?"

However, my vote would be for Aberlour for a fine tasting whisky that is most likely to appeal to most palates.

I can't drink that stuff anymore...
After helping a "mate" build a staircase in my workshop for three days and giving him a hand fitting it, he arrived a few weeks later and walked into the workshop clutching a bag...
"I've just popped in to give you something for doing the staircase"
I was hoping it was stuffed with £5 notes... but it was a bottle of Aberlour.... I choked with every sip....

Superb selection from you all.

Glenfarclas cask for me, 61 %, especially if in 25 litre drums!
Somebody on here looks like they have a limited supply!

Just been fortunate recently to have a drip of oldest whisky ever bottled.
86 years old.
Honestly I would stick with the above and Balvenie Double Wood!

Bought this little beauty to put aside for a big birthday. That was about 9 years ago and that big birthday came and went now it has appreciated so much I am afraid to open it. Maybe next year….

Aberlour is easy to drink and quite smooth, for what it’s worth A’Bunadh is a nice drop depending on how much you want to spend but can do with a splash of water if having a few with the higher alcohol content, my sister in law actually works the stills there or did.

That’s nothing John, you should see my work from home office set up, complete with bar staff/ secretary/ wife, to severe me malt at 5pm every day, without fail, after a hard days work (from Home) in the office.

It a tough life. 😉

Here Davie ye never showed me that when I was up your neck othe woods !!!😂😂

I love a whisky but im not expert ...one bit of advice I got was after 3 or 4 drams of the "guid stuff " yer better going onto aa lesser dram as good stuff wasted / not appreciated as much ....

I will got shot down for this bit im partial to a " low flier and coke " ...grouse n coke...
A bar didn't have jack Daniels one night and my mate got me that instead .... I obviously wouldn't do it with a malt

The grouce is underrated in my humble opinion. Especially the black grouce offering. Nae bad for a blend. The alpha black grouce, when available years ago, was something very special from the grouse label. My snobby Edinburgh pals could believe it was grouce.
