223 Twist Rates

What would be the ideal twist rate in a 223 Tikka T3X to get the best performance from Hornady 55GRN ammunition. Many thanks for an any help with this.

I had the 223 TCX in 1/8. Solid accurate gun even in lighter bullet weights. The standard rifle is 1/12. I ordered the 1/8 to stabilise heavier rounds

Thank you for the help. Appreciated. The rifle available in 1:8 and 1:12 and as only going to shoot up to 250/300 yards I will go for the latter I think.

My 1:12 shots 55 gr very well. Usually v max or blitzking but at the minute I'm on hornady 55 gr spsx and they're devastating

If you're shooting to those distances then it really doesn't matter that much. My 1989 Steyr Mannlicher SL groups everything I've homeloaded from 42 gr to 69 gr perfectly well - the biggest limiting factor is the Mk 1 numpty on the trigger !

Tikka makes a 1:10 T3X in 223. I have one. It would be my #1 choice.~Muir

Mine is a T3Lite which, I am shocked to see, is no longer in production. From earlier threads I gleaned that the 1-10 are scarce on your side of the pond. Maybe they no longer offer the 1-10.... too bad. Mine is a tack driver.~Muir

I just pulled up Tikkas site and see T3 Lites listed. Don't know what I saw before....~Muir

I just visited the newest Tikka site  and found the 223 T3X but didnt' find any twist except 1-8. This site is geared to the US though.

The 1:10” twist T3 is no longer produced. Hasn’t been for at least 7-8 years.

I recall having this conversation with Beretta Australia in around 2012, when I was in the process of choosing three new Tikkas. It wasn’t available then, my choice was 1:12” and 1:8”.

I have a tikka 223 t3x supper varmint 1.12 ,it loves 53g superformance, infact it likes most 50-55g Vmax rounds I’ve tried, all were accurate enough to do the job

I've the 595 in 223, it's 12 twist I believe an "I" prefer the 53g vmax as being boat tail they sit in the case easier while lifting the ram on the press, but both equally accurate

The uffy one was cold bore "not me honest lol" IMG-20190223-WA0013.jpeg

1:12 it is then. Many thanks for the help. All I need is the RFD to reopen to get it ordered.....be standing on the doorstep waiting when that happens.

I can remember seeing Sako 85 .223s listed in the 2012 or 2013 catalogue as available in 1:8, 1:10 and 1:12. The year after the 1:10 was gone.

Cheers
