.22LR barrel cleaning

I tend to get my .22lr squeaky clean after every outing. Apparently it's not good for accuracy but years in the army have drilled it in to me that my weapon should be clean at all times. I guess old habits die hard.
don't get mixed up , the best rf competitors all clean . The only state you can guarantee in a bore is clean. Now if the shooter rarely cleans and never gets the bore clean when they do . Carry on cleaning well every time its been used !

Well…the results are in…spent the evening at the 25m range after giving the rifle a good scrub with Boretech eliminator and a nylon brush, and patching clean. I also took the moderator and tuner apart and cleaned it as it was extremely manky and full of Rimfire gunge (which I think may have been the major thing causing my slight drop in accuracy)

I did 3 x 10 round groups with CCI standard target to warm the barrel up and foul it.

I then shot 5 x 10 shot groups with SK LR match, the largest of which was .27”

I then got Malxwal to shoot 2 x 10 shot groups with a friends CZ LRP, one with CCI and one with SK, then got him to shoot 2 x 10 shot groups with my rifle with both CCI and SK…(the bottom 4 groups)

I then reset my tuner to 0, shot a 30 round group with CCI to warm the barrel and then worked up in 2 position increments all the way to max (21 1/2) shooting 5 shot groups with SK.

To measure the groups I open my caliper to .22” then zero and then just measure the group size edge to edge.

So it looks like it’s back to where it was…

Offhand standing right ?

When it's cold, keep your.22 ammo in a warm pocket ( or other warm place ) to kept it from getting too cold.

Keeping ammo at ambient temperature is important for all long range and precision shooting

I’ve been caught out in the past using the kestral for elevation when the ammo is at a different temp
