26mm scope

Good day. I know similar questions have been asked, however mine is a bit more specific. I have an old Sako L461 which “apparently” one struggles to get scope mounts that fit their “tapered dove tails” so I didn’t look further after struggling to get the optilocks that currently fits
I bought an Habich 26mm tube. I have optilck bases but they don’t 26mm, dies anyone have a solution please?
Kind regards

Yes, but sadly it's very costly albeit a most aesthetically pleasing solution:
If interested please email Conetrol as they do offer mounts for the tappred Sako action in question, but best you hear it from their CEO.

Sell the scope. I struggled in 1999 to get 26mm rings for my father so he could put a Zeiss scope on one of my rifles.

As a point of interest, these sprung Apel rings will accommodate either a 1" or 26mm scope tube:

I know this to be the case as I have fitted both.

1” Optilock rings are fine with 26mm tubes, I speak from positive experience.
I will ask again, are you SURE?
Not cause I don’t trust you, but cause I have a z6i that SADLY carries the evidence “crimp ring” of MY stupidity 🥹🥹🥹

There was “something” up with the rings (30mm optiloc on a 30mm tube) I bought them 2nd hand and they felt a bit “tight” I had to “push the scope into them” rather than laying the scope in the rings” and voila 2 ring crimps on my new scope🤬🤬🤬🤬

Did they have the plastic ring inserts? And yes I’m sure… isn’t the Z6 a 30mm tube?
As mentioned above 30mm rings and 30mm tube on the Z6. However it now has two 29.2 crimped rings on it.
And yes they had the plastic inserts. I am not a novice (just an occasional idot)

Take a set of 1” rings - preferably steel. Take a 1” diameter lapping bar or a 1” piece of steel bar / tube. 1” is about 25.4mm. Use some contact adhesive and glue on a piece of 220 grit wet and dry and start lapping them out. Probably best to mount rings on the rifle or on a rail attached a block of wood so they are in line.

I have done this in the past and it works.

Alternatively take 30mm rings and machine some liners of 2mm thickness machine up.

Or if you have access to a lathe with a 4 jaw chuck or a milling machine take some 1” rings and with a boring bar machine them out to 26mm.

Ok, many thanks everyone.
I have an very old se to of 25mm rings and 2 sets of used 25mm optilocs I am going to “sand paper” the inserts of the optilocs first and see how it goes

There were lots of 26mm ringmounts made by Sako for their own rifles in the period when 26mm tubed scopes were manufactured. I might still have some info a box somewhere.

I had a member bring a set of those here on his rifle as he said they "look odd"
The worse machined parts I have seen! the "gap" is machined off centre and when sat in a gun vice the first thing I noticed was the scope was 4mm off line with the barrel! I put a straight edge off the machined part on the action both side and spot on @paul o' was with me as I put them on my surface plate with a machined ground square...dreadful finishing "burs" not finished for the price of them looked like Stevie Wonder had a go on the mill.

The old Sako dovetapered rings came in both 1” and 26mm in many heights. No point looking elsewhere as they also look the part.

Best Emma Custom Rifles has a set for under £3,000

Most dealers who have them will have them in ‘old junk’ spares boxes and will ask £25-£30 for such a set, which is fair.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Edinburgh Rifles has a set

Yup they were shat not worth the time or ammo that was waisted.
