I have a 300 wm barrel for my M03 which is usually set up for a 6.5x55 SW. I didn’t often use it in the uk albeit open on my license, it was mainly my boar cal for Europe. However this year I added a trip to SA and decided to add a mod from Wildcat and it proved to be a great decision. The 300 without the mod was always a bit strong but for close woodland running boar it was fine and never an issue. However in SA some of the shots were just a bit further and what a great cal it proved to be. Animals hit went down on the spot or with a very brief death run. The Barnes 180 grain was accurate and gave me great confidence from some challenging positions. The moderator definitely improved the setup and I wouldn’t go back to hunting without it. The Mauser M03 is not a light rifle and suits a large cartridge so my advise would be to definitely have a moderator and don’t put it on a too light a rifle and you won’t be disappointed with its performance
