300 win mag

Seeing that the 300 win mag is becoming more and more popular how is everyone who has one justifying it to their feo? I know they can become very twitchy when it comes down to magnum calibres. I’ve always fancied one but I’m pretty certain it would get refused because I already have a 308 for stalking, which is predominantly fallow. But would I would want to keep the 308 with the fallow becoming even wiser could you get granted one for longer range shooting?

I have a Sauer 404 in 300wm great calibre but on my ticket it’s for hunting abroad or for use on approved UK approved ranges, I understand people get them in the U.K. for longer range reds

Few years ago I had a 243 & 308 at the time and put a variation in for a 300 Win Mag for Uk deer and travel to South Africa. Had it back approved for both and AOLQ , no issues again on my FAC renewal last December, so it can be done.

Had no problems getting a 300 win mag for all use legal quarry which has now morphed into a 300 RUM for the same.
If you can justify it, apply. Just make sure you apply for a sound moderator at same time !

1)Join a club - long range target
2)Ethical - larger bullet for testosterone fuelled bucks stags (give examples of deer that didnt die immediately with good solid shot placement)
3) ground requires longer shots, require more energy for ethical kills (see above)
Make sure you indicate that this is an additional requirement not instead of a 308

At least those were my main points

Once had a 404jeff and 9.3x62 approved for any legal quarry in UK. Had them, shot them, killed with them, lost fillings, paid a fortune for ammo, went back to the 7x57.. did exactly the same, cheaper, more pleasantly and more quietly,,,there ‘is’ such a thing as too dead! Lol ;-)

I have a 300wm for target and AOLQ, love the caliber. However you need a rifle of decent weight and fit so you don't get beaten like a cheap steak.

Don't see the point using it on deer to be honest, it's just a bit too much to loose on a roe deer, it got opened up when they opened all my ticket up last renewal!

Although I can imagine it being an exceptional round for big red stags for people that need a hard hitting longer range caliber

Had a slot for 300wm, original good reason asked for was African plains game and aolq. FLO called me and said he could give me the calibre but not aolq in UK without a specific reason, I got aolq because I had red deer stalking in Scotland, fallow wasn't enough.
Never did fill it and have let it go. Great calibre to shoot but not really needed in the UK.

Hmmm. I just don’t see what benefit a 300 mag gives for any quarry in the UK. Every creature that walks the ground in the UK will die in fairly short order if the rifleman does the business right when it is hit with any deer-legal (clue in the deer-legal) bullet so why oh why would you wish to induce flinch, bruise shoulders, loosen fillings and annoy everyone within a substantial radius? Unless of course it is a willy thing……..
Just saying like.

For extra energy at extended distances to ensure clean, efficient kills? 🤔

Foxyboy you have obviously never shot a .300 Win-Mag. I shot one for several years using 180 grain Lapua Mega projectiles i personally never destroyed ( several hundred) a single Muntjac CWD Roe with it never bruised my shoulder suffered a flinch loosen any fillings. Several people shot their first Deer with myself using my .300 including my grandson ( 12 years old at the time) . Mine was granted by Cambridgeshire open with AOLQ

Are you legally allowed to let a 12 year old use a centre fire rifle?
