308 vs 7-08

During many years i shot 7mm08 with custom Sako AII , Remington Seven : Red-Sika-Roe no problem
Bullet 140 Nosler CT

I have both. Either is an excellent calibre, I prefer the 7mm08 but I am awkward, that said you will get .308 ammunition anywhere in the world but no do much 7mm08.

Thanks everybody for the replies. I homeload all the ammo i shoot so availability of factory ammo isn’t really an issue. Also I have never been abroad shooting and (unfortunately) can’t imagine it will happen any time soon so not really worried about availability of factory 7-08 while in foreign parts....

A gentleman would have a 7 x 57 before either of these johny come lately cartridges! :coat:

David.

And an "latest new thing Edwardian gentleman" would have a .280 Ross with his more traditional and equally well heeled brother a .275 H & H Magnum with their "less well off" cousin having to elect for a mere .275 Rigby.

Yes, and which one has best stood the test of time? :)

An American view of this debate.

and the opposite view

7-08 if you reload

308 if you don’t
This is simplicity itself.
I also have had hankerings for the 7-08 Rem BUT..... does it do anything the 308 Win doesn't? AND if I can't be arsed reloading or IF my cartridges have been lost in transit CAN I easily source new factory rounds? You also shoot better with practice and being able to buy reasonably priced training rounds makes practicing easier. Over here it is 22LR, 223 Rem, 6.5x55, 308Win and 30-06 that have the majority share in cartridges bought, for good reason.

^ absolutely. I should add that 308 also if you do a lot of range work. Wider selection of light practice bullets (Lapua 100gr SPCE, 123gr FMJ etc). Also with this copper sh!te light AAC Blackout bullets might give performance closer to what I want - all the 7mm offerings seem to be very big game oriented
