45/70 for stalking

I have had an eye peeled for a Siamese action for twenty years... Still looking...
The supply of Siamese Mausers dried up a long time ago . I did see an original last year but I'm not a fan of chopping up original military rifles , there aren't many left these days .

I've converted a few Lee Enfield No4s to 45/70 before , it's a lot of work , mostly getting them to feed reliably . The 444 Marlin is a much friendlier conversion . You can cheat and use a bolt action 410 mag mounted inside the issue mag , it works perfectly . You don't have to do anything to the extractor / bolt face either . Not to be a buzz kill , but I've gone to the 458X2 American if I want a bolt action in that category of cartridges . I put one together for a friend of mine built on a Savage 110 that was originally chambered in 300WM . It was probably the easiest build I've ever done . He bought a pre-chambered 458x2 barrel so I didn't even need a reamer ( I bought one anyway lol ) . I spun off the original barrel and used the barrel nut ( ugly , but very efficient ) on the new one . I have belted case go / no go gauges so it was just a matter of turning in the barrel on the go gauge and tightening the barrel nut . I had to tweak the feed lips on the magazine a bit and then it was done . He still has the option of switching it back to the original barrel if he wants . It will put three rounds of 400 gr Speers driven to about 1800 fps into about 3/4 of an inch at one hundred yards . It's very useful set up .

**** oorf....
More of a traditional type myself but anyone opting for a levergun gets my approval, not that it counts for anything.
Note I said levergun and not under lever. They have nothing to do with your undies and everything to do with the action being manipulated via a lever!

Range report asap please.

this is an under lever
