45-70

That wouldn't be my choice of optic, but I do love the rifle... They reckon my 1894 will be here within the next 3 months. Maybe I'll get a big brother for it next year... 🤔

not shot it with the arken on yet only just put it on , I had a small vortex scout scope on it what was good but absolutely useless in last light , so had this arken kicking about and it's nice and compact still ,

I shoot hornady 300gr hp at 2100fps

Well I use 265 gr interlocks for shooting boar. 🐗 I drive them fast and hard .. makes a big hole and tons of energy 👍
I was only jesting, I was very tempted by the .444 but the 45-70 was more readily available with larger choice of consumables, suits me better as I use it for target mainly, but I do have it conditioned for deer and have taken a couple with it.

Not that it's especially important to me, but I believe you can get Scotland-legal velocity out of a light-ish 444, which the 45-70 seems to struggle with even using 250gr bullets 🤔
In theory it can be done in 45-70 with H4198 and a 24-26” barrel out of a modern action, but as that’s a reach powder it’s a moot point (though I have a few tubs).

The .444 allows use of lighter bullets like 180 gr, so the velocity is easier to achieve.

here's my ruger made marlin 45-70

Very similar load to mine, I think I am pushing them slightly faster with 8208 XBR, same gun.

Will the electronics hold up to the recoil?

Mine is deer legal in Scotland no problem just as well as I live on the border.Mine is running a little bit above book !
Also makes soup out of foxy out to 150 yards😎

Mine is the micro grove as well and shoots any thing I put through it well not tried any heavier than 300 gr though !
The price of second hand .444 marlins have also jumped up in price in the Uk to well over £1200 if you can find one as they don’t tend to hang around long
Goodo - I bought one brand new in about 2010 for about £600. Certainly not the worst investment I've ever made!
