6.5 x 55 140gish load????

After having a slot for far too many years, i have finally purchased a 6.5 x55.

I was wondering what loads people are using for it. Ideally around140g, and if possible using n140 but open to ideas.

N140 is too fast for a 140 gr, n160 is a better choice.

You will struggle with N140 as a bit fast and with 140gr you will have very little wiggle room between ok and too high pressure. Everyone jumps to N160 with the 6.5x55 but most of the data is for 24” barrels.
Shorter barrels 21”, need a slightly faster powder otherwise you get poor burn percentage which can lead to variable terminal effect. N150 is a good powder being the best of the Vit single based powders but as already said RS60 works really well in 140gr lead and 120gr copper.

I was about to give you a good starting load for an all-copper projectile innthe weight mentioned but then realised I use H4350 which, unfortunately, is unobtainable in the UK.

I'm fortunate to have enough tubs stashed, along with Varget, to see me out.

N555 and N560 are my loads with 24” barrel. N140 is best used only for the light bullets at 100gr ish.
The Vihtavuori app is a good place to start and then work up if needed to work out wherewithal your pressure limit is.

Lately I have been buying S&B 142grn one 6.5x55 i have loves them the other thinks it's a shotgun same with fox 123grn.

I have custom stuff made by Paul as Beds Sporting and he loads 120gn noslers for me an they are excellent - flatter shooting than a 140gn bullet

6.5x55SE - I use 43gns Viht. N550 with 123gn Hornady SST's & have perfect accuracy & performance

I use N140 with Nosler ABLR 142 in my Creed works well, they are accurate but not easy to find at the right price.

I’ve been reloading 6.5x55 for a long time and my preferred bullet weight is 140g, initially starting with Acc 4350, when that became unobtainable in the UK I went to Lovex S070, I have tried many other powders but I always came back to Lovex, I’ve had good performance from N160 (44g). My go to now is Winchester StaBALL 6.5 (45g). Giving a MV of 2735fps with 140g ELD-M, and coincidentally I get exactly the same point of aim and MV from the 143g ELD-X. For me the StaBALL is better than anything I’ve used before.
