That’s a fair shoutMaybe not quite the best time to start load testing and familiarisation with the shortage of components etc. It's over £350 to just replace my brass and dies (like for like) and both are on backorder. LoL

Ah, that might be a problemI don't believe an M12 can be re-barreled? The barrel is sweated in.
It's not that I dislike the C'moor. It's the fact that I have a lot invested in 6.5x55 re-loading kit and brass as I said above. Is there any specific reason why you don't want the CM, or is it just the stigma?
If you already have the reloading kit for the 6.5 x 55 then fair enough. Though even at that you would still need to load test for any new rifle regardless if you had the same calibre before
Forget all the stigma and rib poking about the CM. It's simply a 6.5 calibre rifle and does the same job at the end of the day.
Thanks, but I'm after a new rifle and it's not too desperate a need, despite my little rant at the beginning.I have a 6.5x55 Tikka 695 in walnut and blue sporter brl light weight stalking rifle may part with it
In all honesty then if it were me, and the obvious way things are going I would sell the 6.5 x 55 kit to get the funds for the CM reloading kit. It's not that I dislike the C'moor. It's the fact that I have a lot invested in 6.5x55 re-loading kit and brass as I said above.

So I went into my local RFD for a mooch and while there asked about him about ordering a Tikka in 6.5x55 as nobody seemed to stock them anymore. Plenty of 6.5 Needmores about. I'd e-mailed GNK but didn't receive a reply.
I wanted one in a Laminate stock, Stainless Steel, 20" barrel with a set trigger. They're advertised on the Tikka website.
He said that Tikka had stopped taking orders 'till April 23 and, as it was a special model, if I ordered one it would probably be here in 2024!
I said I'd probably be dead, or in a care home by then. So I asked about a bog standard 6.5x55. No joy.
6.5 Needmore in a variety of camp (sorry auto fill - meant camo) stocks and configurations no problem!
What's wrong with the old 65x55 Swede?
A number of european manufacturers have been turning out 1:8.7 for years....and the twist rate of the old Model 96 Mauser was what?
1:8 is not new or modern....it dates back to 1894 with the M94 carbine models
Just get with the programme and buy the 6.5 CM. It is the better, modern, widely available, cartridge. So I asked about a bog standard 6.5x55. No joy.

Ouch!Just get with the programme and buy the 6.5 CM. It is the better, modern, widely available, cartridge.
Whereas the 6.5 x55 is nowadays a relic, for reloaders maybe. Or the obscure Scand-Wegians and Danish target shooters, mostly all using the SIG Sauer 200 STR and subsidised ammo.
I’ve got a sako 85 synthetic blued thats seen very little use for sale, shameless plugSo I went into my local RFD for a mooch and while there asked about him about ordering a Tikka in 6.5x55 as nobody seemed to stock them anymore. Plenty of 6,5x55 hunting rifles still in action here from Blasers to M96/98 mausers. And 6,5x55 ammo available in most gunshops, 6.5 Creedmoor not so much although gathering momentum. Can’t see it replacing the 55 (here) in my shooting career. In Norway the most popular big game chamberings are 6,5x55 308W & 30-06.Just get with the programme and buy the 6.5 CM. I would check with some riflesmiths. I am not sure that is correct.I don't believe an M12 can be re-barreled? The barrel is sweated in.
I just watched rural Montana from a lady travelling the world on a motorcycle, it looks like a very nice part of the world.Ballistically, nothing. Not as marketable as the Creedmoor.
I shoot both, in multiples, (6 or seven of each) and there isn't a spit's worth of difference in the field. In a practical sense, however, you can get the Creedmoor in about any weapon configuration from a 12-inch handgun to a 26 inch full-blown target rifle, in all price ranges. and ammo is widely available in a multitude of varieties.
If you want an accurate rifle that kills what it is pointed at, it is in front of you.
Of course, if you feel it's too faddish and insist on a new modern rifle in a 125 year old chambering, you can continue to wait til someone thinks it might sell on more than a special order basis.
Our ranch store in rural Montana has Tikkas in Creedmoor....... ~Muir
It is quite different here in the UK. 6.5 CM is everywhere,. 6.5x55 SE, or SKAN, or whatever, not so. I know that you use it for things like moose, as well, which does seem a bit under-par really, from our perspective. But if that's all that you have got ...Plenty of 6,5x55 hunting rifles still in action here from Blasers to M96/98 mausers. The M18 is definitely a press-fitted (not sweated in) barrel. Adequate because the bolt locks into into the barrel, not the receiver. So the receiver takes no force. A useful cost saving measure to meet a price point. In short, a disposable rifle. I dunno about the M12, maybe that is made properly.I would check with some riflesmiths. I am not sure that is correct.
