6x47sm good or bad?

Ive just brought a 6x47 of a friend going away in need of money. I brought the rifle for what i thoight was cheep but because i had no slot for it on my ticket had to store it at my local gunshop. While it was there the own took an intrest in it and locked up all the costom parts to value the rifle. He then got back to me and said the price i paid was about right but being a friend told me it was far more rifle then what i need. I had it advertised on the internet and had alot of people ask about it but not knowing much about it i cant help them. Could someone help me with a price!

spec:Custom built Brock and Norris 6x47 Swiss match rifle with a Stiller Predator action, Macmillan sporter stock (devcon and pillar bedded) 24" stainless fluted barrel, Jet Z Compact sound moderator and picatinny rail. Load data and dies to go with rifle! It was built to shoot 80gr Nosler but it also shoots well with 95gr berger VLD and 105 A Max. it has shot approximately 400 rounds through it! Open to sensible offers. Scope not included in package!!!

It is probably one of the most accurate 6mm chamberings out there and Lapua brass is readily available for it. from what you are saying your RFD is suggesting you sell it to buy a lesser gun? Don't get that at all...

It seems that your local dealer has already swayed you, why go for a lesser rifle, unless you think that its too much gun? whatever you decide be confident and happy with the outcome.

I just dont no much about the caliber and the build of the rifle.The kid who had it spoke ever so well about it and i watched him take some amazing shots with it, mostly shots i wouldnt think of taking. I just wonder if someone else would have more use of the rifle then what i have!

Notwithstanding that, I would get the rifle home, use it and learn how well it can shoot. At some point in the future you can re-barrel it.

Nothing wrong with the caliber other than Home load only unless there is expanding ammo about now that has passed me by as its a target round if memory serves me well it was conceived to shoot on of the specialist 300m disciplines.

If its on a predator and its from Mike the action would have come from me, it seems very strange your dealer saying its too much gun.

You are absolutely right, I should have quantified my statement by saying the superb Lapus 6.5 mm brass was readily available and easily necked down .5mm to accommodate the 6mm chambering. And then realised it was not the Lapua offering...

without knowing the OP's preferences or needs, perhaps the RFD thinks that for £2000+ that the rifle is worth he could get something more mainstream in a calibre that does not require necking brass

get that rifle on your ticket ,it will do anything a 243 will do with less powder and tons more accuracy ,brass available from ruag
this is a differnt case from the 6.5x47 lapua necked down ,i shoot the lapua version their both similar in size and accuracy and mines is a tack driver shoots .250 moa all day long ,i have a couple of friends that shoots the sm version and they are realy accurate

I was at a gun show in Pamona, California and i ran into one of the top writers on Lee Enfield Rifles. I told him I had a No 1, Mk VI Trials Rifle (rare) and he magnanimously offered to buy it from me for less then 10% of it's value. Are you nucking futz? I asked. He replied that he was the expert on these rifles and it would appear in his next book.

are you the kind of guy who wants a mainstream calibre with plenty availability of factory ammo?

or

do you homeload and want summit bit "different"?

it sounds like a fantastic rifle and i think it maybe a bit daft to go sell it and then try to get summit else made thats your requirements ....generally would work oot more i think ...sods law always does....and then the waiting etc.

even if you didnt want that calibre, as said if you have the money you could re-barrel it into something mre conventional

if it was me either way wouldnt matter ...i would still be inclined to keep it.

Totally agree, I shoot a 6.5x47 and it's sooooo accurate. Get it on your ticket and enjoy
