A couple of Lvl 2 questions please...

Just about to start off on the Lvl 2 journey and reading through the potential AW witness questions. Comfortable with virtually all of them but a couple are puzzling me (and probably shouldn't!):

3.4 If the kidneys had been grossly enlarged, what might that suggest to you and
what would you do about it?


3.4 If the liver had been blotchy and hard at the edge, what would that suggest to
you and what would you do about it?

I've had a look through my DSC1 manual and also the BDS disease identification handbook I've got and nothing specifically aligns to the symptoms above - sure I'm missing something obvious though!

Not 100% but may be,

1 Urinary infection
2 Liver fluke

In both cases as long as its reported on dec normal conditions apply.

Others may offer a correct more detailed answer or alternatives

Enlarged kidneys could be a sign of Hydronephrosis which is basically a blockage/restriction of the renal system which causes a back pressure and swelling of the kidneys. You could also see renal cysts which look like half black grapes on the kidneys and are actually grape sized pockets of urine under the skin of the kidney.

Liver as described is usually a sign of liver fluke. Incising the blood vessels at the top of the liver would probably disclose small rolled up 'leaf like' semi-transparent fluke. The blood vessels would also be lighter in colour and may even resemble clay pipes.

Neither condition would render the carcass as unfit for human consumption though, but the game tag should be annotated to include the abnormality.
