A friends FAC refusal

Not really, I applied for X2 .22RF, X2 .38/357, .44, .223, S1 shotgun and mods for all of them. Was granted everything albeit the .223 and a mod for my .44 for some insane reason.
As long as you have good reason for each gun/calibre then there should be no limit on the number you initially apply for.
Out of interest, what were the reasons for refusal on the mods?

The FEO couldn't seem to wrap his head around the fact you could thread the barrel on an underlever, I had to show him pictures of the .38/.357 underlevers other people had threaded to get that slot, he said if I ever needed a mod for the .44 to put in a variation!
Personally, I feel like they just denied it to meet quotas of some sort, as I know that's happened elsewhere.

Bizarre! My .44 mag lever action is threaded from new from the factory. I didn't ask for a moderator for that though, perhaps I should!

Essex dinged me on a target rifle ( only 22lr ) as I was still probie at my club. they were at least good enough to phone me and talk me thru it tho !

good luck to your friend, shouldnt be long I'd hope
I got caught in the same trap when I switched clubs and so was a probationer. My new club is excellent and they made me a full member within 12 hours of the FLO reluctantly stating I would have to pause or pull my application. I hadn’t intended to jump the queue, just acquire an extra rifle for the boys’ competition small bore shooting. My police force then issued the variation certificate within 48 hours.

You really should, got my .357 threaded and found a moderator, and its become one of my favourite rifles. Currently waiting for it be approved for vermin!

Amen to that, you should see some of the CV's I get sent
CVs should be properly written.

I wouldn't mind if people who struggle with written English write to FEO / FLDs in grammatically poor English as long as the correspondence is written with respect and thought.

My son is heavily dyslexic, I see first hand the horrific barrier the written word creates in every day life; made easier with modern technology but not everyone has access to the tech that would help. Requiring or even expecting perfect English without seeing past it would be a huge barrier for many, and shouldn’t be.

Lack of experience is not a reason to refuse an application.

You need to contact a professional stalker and book some paid stalking. Then get a receipt from them to explain what you have done, and where safe. Then re book another stalk and apply again for your FAC.

It states in the act that a booked stalk is sufficient.

Can you give me a reference for this, please?
I see in the HO Guidance that many shooters can rely on paid stalks, but it also mentions that "hunting large animals with powerful rifles requires particular skill, and applicants should generally have some experience of firearms" (para 13.32). Still not a definite prohibition but a desire on the part of the certification team. The Chief Constable (and the FLD) have great discretion when it comes to reasons and the validity of such.
I cannot find similar in he various acts, probably too many trees blocking sight of the wood.

I had the same about 8 years ago in north wales, told to get a rimfire first, my friend applied at the same time and got granted a .223 which was annoying from my side to say the least, i didnt go ahead with the rimfire, and have instead been out with another friend of mine who is a gamekeeper for many years to gain experience, have applied 2 months ago again for a .223, hopefully the experience helps me get one this time 🤞

I’ve had this with a couple of mates of mine in the last few years. Whereby I had to mentor them and vouch for their competencey and safety awareness. Used to only be for Centrefire but the most recent one was for Rimfire.

I think it’s an accountability angle.
