A kiwi introduction

Hi all,
My name is Peter and I’m 26 years old from New Zealand and I’ve made the move to the UK on a 2 year visa.
I’m an avid hunter of red and fallow deer, pigs, tahr and chamois. I’m also very interested in the gamebird season in NZ, where we shoot mallard, spoonbill and paradise ducks, black swans and Canada Geese.
For the red stag season in 2025 I’d love to work as a seasonal ghillie in Scotland, so I’ll be keeping an eye out in this directory, but would also welcome any tips or pointers.
Thanks for accepting my membership.

Welcome. My wife is in Nelson just now seeing her family. Where in the UK are you based just now?
Nelson is a nice part of the country. I was working on a Turkey farm in Devon. I’ve since moved to Austria and am hoping to see out the winter here for the ski season, before returning to the UK for a lambing job.

If you ski you’ll have a blast in Austria! I’m keeping a close eye on the Glenshee wecbcams for a sign of ski-able snow but it’s still a little warm here, normally into the New Year before there’s a sufficient buildup.
We have 3 young Kiwi women staying with us who are also here for 2 or 3 years. I thought it was disgraceful that they had to pay £700 pa in advance to be allowed to use the NHS when they are all working & making the contributions that entitle them to access healthcare here, effectively having to pay to use the service twice. Good luck with you plans, John

Spectacular scenery and plenty of snow in St Anton Am Arlberg. Yes the visa is expensive but it is what it is. Thanks John, all the best.

Hi, I'm a Kiwi myself but moved with my family to North Wales at 9 years old and now live in a ski resort in the Austrian Alps. I hunt when working in the UK. from late summer to Xmas, it's pretty expensive as a guest shooter in Austria but I am looking at Slovinia and Croata for future hunts. I'm based in the Amade region near Salzburg.
