A@S Coterminous renewal off to a poor start.

My ticket expires in September so I was expecting a letter pretty soon. Returning from holiday today the renewal letter was waiting for me.
It was dated 30 May 2025 and franked 17th June 2025. It wasn't delivered prior to me going away so was delivered post 19th June.
So nigh on 3 weeks have elapsed before it was delivered. They are requesting the medical section to be processed without delay!
Hardly a good start.
So off to my GP surgery tomorrow unsure if there are any there as its all but impossible to see a GP and I don't think my original GP may have retired.
Fingers crossed

Is it right that you can apply to the Docters 20 weeks before your renewal and if so how do you apply??
Can only speak for Kent, they have the GP form on their website to download and take to your registered GP if using a third party online GP service you would need to contact them and give them authority to request your medical records.

The kent link for the GP report looks to link to the met police, so hopefully by now it is the same form all forces use.

If it’s expiry end sept you e got loads of time.

GP practice should just lift you of a few quid and that’s that, they’ll then send your report to the police directly stating whether or not it there’s anything on file that could impact on your suitability to posses firearms

Easy peasy

I attached a note to my form stating I would appreciate a prompt response "so I continue my work on local estates and farms". No mention of deer stalking, shooting etc! Had a call 2 days later from surgery, paid £50 and form back.

It's odd/annoying that the police say the GP proforma letter is only valid for 6 months when once they have it it's then valid for the the next 5 years that your Certificate is also valid for.

If you use Medcert or another 3rd party there is no ability for them to add notes onto your GP file or to ensure your GP will notify the FLD of any relevant conditions you develop.

Just another money making scheme to cover their ass at our expense.

Not sure about A&S, but my renewal with TVP last year took 6 months. The GP form will be given to you, and you have to supply to the police along with your renewal forms etc

@Cyres Exactly the same! My expiry is 27 Sep and I was twitching over when the letter would arrive. Got back last Friday evening from a week in Venice to find the letter waiting. Like yours, dated 30 May, postmark 17 June, received 21 June!

I got the GP form into the surgery last Monday and collected it Friday - £40 plus a £40 expedite fee. So far so good! Was astonished to receive a call from the FEO last Thursday booking in my renewal interview for a week Monday.

Thanks for your reply. Identical date and franking to my renewal letter. I flew out to Canada on the 19th June and returned yesterday.
I will DM you with an update.

is the renewal interview face to face or phone call?

I hope all goes well.

I must say that if I had a renewal coming up this year, I think I would be minded to download the forms, get them done and put them in at least three or four months before the expiry date, without waiting for the force to send them to me first. We all know what public sector admin is like at the moment - and of course, they have no legal obligation to send them to you anyway.

Section 6 of the Statutory Guidance gives a lot of clear info on renewals

my new personal cert is due from A&S in the soon, they issue one week before expiry. told me no interview needed, and were very accommodating when Dr didn't sent the med forms through, so don't assume everything has got to them, best to call and check, they have a register of application completeness and will tell you if everything is in place - so no complaints here (at the moment)

they reject the applications if they go in too early, they want them 8 weeks before
