Accuracy at 1000 mtrs

There tends to be a bit of a step change as soon as the bullet starts to go transonic, around 1340 fps. Instability creeps in, especially if your twist rate is marginal, and the G7 models become less accurate. Bryan Litz has developed Custom Curves for use out to about 3000 meters for ELR which uses dopler radar to measure actual bullet speeds and BC through the zone and out the other side. These curves are available for about 250 different LR bullets now but only on his licensed hardware like the Garmin 701. If shooting inside 800 meters Strelok Pro is very good as most LR bullet/rifle combinations are still supersonic at that range, but if you are stretching out a bit then the Custom Curves give a better solution.
I will get the book, still learning!

Cracking thread chaps; thoroughly enjoyable and interesting to read , I would love to get into long range shooting but haven’t a clue where to start and don’t really know ranges near to me (Essex) obviously I know of bisley but again I don’t really know the process involved and advice would be greatly appreciated-sorry to hijack the thread!

The problem I find with Bisley, Barton Road and the more formal ranges is that you get onto a fixed firing point and a fixed distance and are stuck there. I much prefer places like Richard Uttings range which is 1200 meters and from a single firing point you can shoot steel gongs from 200 meters to 1200 and have a few of you doing it from the same position at the same time. We tend to do it as a team of 4, stay at the local pub and make a fun couple of days of it. You get good quality instruction as well. It's a 4 hour drive from Essex but it's worth it - Bisley is 2 hours - or more if the M25 isn't playing nicely. WMS or Orion in Wales are similar. Roundhouse in Cornwall or Gardeners in the Borders are also worth a look but a bit further away for us Essex people.

Hi Nigel,

Thank you very much for your response I’ll look into that, in regards to instruction I assume that is something that you pay for?

Thanks
