had a similar situation on land i had for rabbit shooting ,turned out four of us had permission to shoot rabbits, we just all liase with each other about who is out and when ,the only guy who got arsey was the bloke who shoots at pigeons,he no longer goes to the farm,but he would never go unless he thought he could shoot 200+lol

Thanks again for all the responses , I think the best plan is to have a chat with the guy and sort it out so everyone is happy as can just see the situation getting worse otherwise , I don't want to keep bothering the farmer with this , as you say rickoshay he has far more important things to do than ref this dispute.

The Hoffman Pyramid was taught on all Deer courses a long time ago so it would indicate the guy certainly has been shooting there for some time.
It is a good system in principle but can only be useful if you have sole rites and ground big enough to operate the system.
I must admit I have not heard it mentioned for years so it is probably no longer taught.

I have a lot of farmer friends in berkshire, they are all tenant farmers on large estates - none of the have the deer rights on their farms which remain with the various estates-are you sure your farmer has the rights on the deer himself?

Looking at it objectively from the outside.... Etiquette demands the original stalker should call the shots and if push comes too shove you're going too lose out.... unless you recognise this reality.

7 days in a week, you shoot on 3, because he was there first he shoots on 4.
Not the best solution i know but it might work, just make sure they are consecutive days.
Other than that personally i would walk away from it.
I share some ground with another stalker, we always ring the farmer before we go out (obviously), because he was the original stalker he takes preference, it works well and we get along just fine.
I hope it all works out well in the end.

Hi Caz518,Get everything in writing off the farmer,Vermin control,deer stalking etc,Everytime this guy kicks off just show him the agreement between him(Farmer) and yourself,A few photocopied wouldnt go a miss and show him the sheet and simply walk away,Sooner or later he"ll get the message.
Failing that, Swipe a few pairs of knickers off the farmers washing line and if you get a chance somehow try and get them into this guys car,Then tell the farmer that you"ve seen this guy in a nearby layby with what looked like a pair of womans knickers on his head."JOB SORTED".

Appreciate that you didnt know there was an active stalker already on the ground when you asked for permission.
Even though the other bloke sounds like an arse I can sysmpathise with his position to an extent. Nobody wants another gun encroaching on 'their' ground and we are all a wee bit protective of our difficult to obtain permissions.
Ground sharing can work. I share about 2000 acres with 2 other stalkers and we have an agreed cull plan.
In ground sharing there is a real health and safety issue. We have a system where we text or email each other when we are going out to the ground and we restrict activity to only 1 gun on the ground at a time. None of us are 'butchers' and looking to fill the freezer and we have a very high level of trust in each other... very important. This may be an option for you but to be honest it deosnt sound like you have enough ground (or deer ?) to make this viable.

You have to ask yourself the question - Is this worth the hassle and maybe the horrible possibility of a situation where the arse guy might get you into bother with the local firearms licensing dept ?

May i state at this time there should never be a safty issue on ground NEVER. May i also say CAZ in your first post you did not say that the other chap was on first. For me you should do the correct and right thing and that is step away from the ground and let them man who is doing a job do it on his own,

to be honest, some farmers don't care how many people shoot on their land, and will freely give permission to anyone who asks,,but I guess you should take the moral high ground and say "ok, even IF the farmer is ok with granting me permission, there IS someone here before me, so I shall respect him and step away"...at least that's what I would hope others would do/think to do of me/my permissions..
