As above it depends on who is selling them (private or trade) and when it was made.

Ok, but wrong.
Air rifles/pistols (over 1J energy) are firearms in the terms of the Firearms Act, just ones that don't require an FAC to possess (unless you're in the people's protectorate of scotland, then something strange happens).
