Good Morning,

Walking the dog this morning and spotted what looked like a white plastic bird, but as i got closer i realised it was alive and a white Blackbird ( Leucistic ), digging around in the leaves and twigs, managed to get a good clear look at it from @3ft away, it was with another normal coloured blackbird. Walked this pathway most days for the past 12 years and never seen one before, just wondered if anyone else has ?, . Came home for the mobile to try and get a quick pic but it has flown off. Just a really nice thing to see and has made my day already.

You would be surprised how wide a variety colours blackbirds can be especially in domestic aviaries. My niece sent me a picture of a cinnamon hen black birds in her garden. Just spent 10 mins looking for the picture and can't seem to find it.

There is an amazing specimen of a ‘white blackbird’ in the natural history museum in Tring.
If ever you are in the area then do pay it a visit - it’s really good, kids love the place and it’s free. It’s twinned with the museum of the same name in London but is much more relaxed.

It belongs to the Natural History Museum in London.

I usually have my phone with me when out and about, one of the times I didn't, I found a white hedgehog.

Quite rare in my area.

That's a shame, rarely go out without mine to be fair, but left it on charge this morning doh.

I once saw a leucistic crow which resembled a very large magpie, and we had a leucistic blackbird that became so used to us that it would hop into the kitchen. For a few years we would get its offspring, also with some white feathers, until the neighbour’s bastar* cat killed it.

We had a white blackbird locally a few years ago around here. We now have a few “splashed” ones so assume it bred. I also had this at the bird feeder a couple of years back and think it was a chaffinch.

Good morning,

Walking the dog again past the same spot as yesterday and the Blackbird was in exactly the same place as yesterday. This time I had the mobile, got a couple of pics and a short video of the bird. Unable to upload video at the moment, will try later.
